Yes my bearded friends. You are scientifically more masculine, healthy and will live longer than your folically challenged friends. Rejoice in your facial hair! Science says so... and well, so does the Interwebs!

It is with a saddened heart and deep regreat, I announce the death of my good friend Mike Jenkins, the 2012 Arnold Strongman Classic champion and Worlds Strongest Man multi time finalist. Early reports indicate he passed away in his sleep.
Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban takes that sort of medical investment very seriously; as he said at the 2013 Sloan Sports Analytics Conference, the Mavs are "locking up our medical staff to longer-term deals than our players." And in the search for advancements, he thinks sports leagues, including the NBA, should be taking a closer look at the prospective benefits of human growth hormone (HGH), according to Sam Amick of USA TODAY Sports:
6 short years ago I fell in love with the sport of strength – STRONGMAN. Like most active kids leaving college I was searching for a competitive niche, a sport to call my own again coming from constant competition through high school and college.
My body was growing too old/brittle for football and having dabbled unsuccessfully like most do in bodybuilding and powerlifting, my competitive prowess was yearning for something more!

“You’re the friend everyone needs and no-one wants!” Work colleague to me.
That’s right, I am one of those rare people who do not care what you think, you are likely to get the truth from me anyway – love me or hate me for it! Do not mistake me for a fool, I am intelligent and calculated in terms of how I present my opinion (in most instances). I have spent some time lately identifying my values; clarifying; what is important to me, the sort of friend, aunty, girlfriend, daughter and sister I aspire to be; how I want to relate to and interact with the world, other people and myself.
The America’s Strongest Man® contest has long been held in high regard among strength athletes as the title to hold in America. As big as the show is, it is not as big as her champion this year.
Fresh of of his WSM victory 5 weeks ago in China, Brian Shaw arrived in Las Vegas with a quiet confidence. Sure he had the swagger of a champion, let’s face it, he has been the WSM victor twice and a winner at the Arnold once. But, Shaw was humble. He stopped for pictures with fans, signed autographs...
It is four weeks now until I leave for LA to compete in Americas Strongest Women. This will be my sixth contest in the United States in four years~ it is a 14 hour flight from Australia to LA. I have learnt so much about travelling and competing in this time and it absolutely critical that you fully prepare your body for this, in the week proceeding the flight, during flight and upon landing at the place of contest...
The ultimate goal of strongman is to become the perfect all around strength athlete. This means that you must have brute maximum strength, repetition strength, static strength, explosive strength, grip strength as well as functional mobility ~Josh Thigpen, The Cube Method for Strongman.
So we all know you need to be strong in this sport right? It really is fascinating to talk to the top strongmen and women about how they program themselves and other athletes into strongman/women contests. I have had two of the worlds strongest athletes write me strongwomen training programs, one man and one women and their principles were TOTALLY different.
Brian Shaw, the former Worlds Strongest Man champion from 2011 suffered an Injury at the 2012 Arnold Strongman Classic which he struggled with at last years WSM and this years ASC. However, the prolific mountain of a man dominated nearly every aspect of qualifying and continued that into finals. Shaw bested last years WSM winner Zydrunas Savickas who took 2nd and the Icelandic Giant Thor Bjornsson in 3rd. Rounding out the top five were Americans Mike Jenkins who suffered from severe food poisoning duringqualifying and fellow Shaw training partner, Mike Burke.

Those same four finalists, barring injury or unforeseen circumstance are now officially confirmed to participate in what will be the LARGEST star studded ASM in it's history.
The Worlds Strongest Man qualifying has wrapped up and a few surprises, injuries and illness helped shape what has now become the final 10. Highlights of the weeks qualifying include:
CBS Sports Network and IMG have reached a multi-year agreement to showcase the World’s Strongest Man competition on CBS Sports Network, as part of the Network’s CBS Sports Spectacular series. While all those statements are true, the fact we are looking for is that Thigpen, White and Ortmayer all competed in their very first amateur NAS show a little bar in Dennison, Texas, promoted by retired ASC Pro Chad Smith! In fact, the bar currently named Smitty’s Bar & Grill and now owned by Smith. Texas was the birthplace of North American Strongman Society (now NAS, Inc.) in 1997 and Smiity’s was the site of many early NASS contests!
Primo Chalk was formulated with... “the idea for Primo Chalk occurred to me on the way home from a workout. I had forgotten to wash my hands after Olympic lifting and pull-ups and I had a couple of rips. Driving home I thought about all the bugs that were, possibly, on the bars and bumper plates at my gym ...and now on my hands ...and the steering wheel ..and the gearshift. The first formula was a reality a few months later and we (some CrossFit coaches and I) tested it. The test was several workouts that included weight lifting We started using it in classes and nearly everyone seemed to like it better than the regular stuff. It was even better after adding an additional natural drying agent.”
Mike Johnston reported on the Rx Power Hour that THE biggest names in American Strongman have confirmed for the 2013 version of America's Strongest Man. Below are the contestants he says are confirmed to make an apperance for this years event held during the 2013 Mr Olympia Weekend in Las Vegas, Nevada on Sept 27 and 28th.
“Just have fun and enjoy yourself…” ~ A joke between Stefanie Tropea (champion strongwoman) and I leading in to the 2012 NAS nationals….we were NOT having fun.
So this was my first week of training in my 11 week lead in to the NAS Nationals…I have also seriously cleaned up my nutrition over the past four weeks (thank god for mammoth kitchen and GenTec nutrition ~ outstanding Australian companies who make this prep time so much easier for me and Jon Davie and Allison Nicoll-Matthews my nutrition gurus), which is essentially the icing on the “it is time to get serious” cake. I developed an 11 week calendar this week outlining every morning and afternoon session, for every day leading into the nationals. Jill Mills has provided the first part of my strongwomen event training and so the “fun” has begun….
Powerlifitng phenom Becca Swanson and her husband Yasir announced the birth of Azlan Anthony Chaudhari, born July 17, 2013, 2:58 am, 8 lb 7 oz, 20 inches.
Alanna Casey (winner – under 150lbs Strongwomen world championships 2013) and I laugh often about the differences between me and her. We refer to ourselves as the yin and yang of the sport simply because we seem like polar opposites; Alanna being intensely focused on the win, Me, “going with the flow” and driven by self improvement. I have been competing in NAS contests in the United states for the past 4 years and I can categorically state that the American and Australian cultures and attitudes especially when it comes to competition seem so so different.
I thought it would be interesting to answer a number of questions, me as the laid-back Aussie and Casey as the world dominating American to see how our perspectives, views and attitudes contrasted. It also gives you a little insight into both of us as athletes….So here goes, enjoy…..
