Canuck Corner-Installment #6

Canuck Corner-Installment #6

Hi Everyone!IMG-20120319-00222

I hope you have had a great week so far and are feeling strong and motivated in the gym! The spring is a great time of year to start getting outside and change up your training activities. Personally I plan on doing some hill runs just up the street from my place, and also hitting up the ocean side board walk for some invigorating "sea salt air" cardio :-)

your-weight-lifting-schedule-guide-to-reps-and-setsPart 2 Series: Rest Intervals and Exercise Selection

With part one of this series we discussed training intensity and volume and how altering the two can lead to goals of hypertrophy within the sport of bodybuilding.  For this part of the series I would like to discuss rest intervals and exercise selection in relation to a training program and how altering these two variables can, again, help you to achieve your goals of hypertrophy within the sport of bodybuilding.

Kickin It With Karina: Beijos: Blog 1

Hi,this is Karina Nascimento and I wanted to thank you all for your support.

DSC 0716
I just got through winning the first IFBB Women’s Physique Show at the Desert Muscle Classic in Arizona.  I hope to bring an even better physique to the IFBB PRO GRAND PRIX in Culver City, California.  The challenge is on for me.  I have three children under the age of 8 and my husband travels a lot. Competing is my passion and the fact is there’s no easy way to do what we do.  I don’t think that my diet is notably different than most competitors’ because it consists of oats, eggs, and chicken with asparagus, turkey, broccoli, yogurt, peanut butter, a scoop of protein, fish and salad.

KRIS MURRELL: CHAPTER 2, ROAD TO THE JR. NATIONALS

62544570419KRIS MURRELL: CHAPTER 2, ROAD TO THE JR. NATIONALS

I met Kris in July of 2004. I went to Jacksonville, Florida, to prospect with the intention of relocating. I was working for a personal training company in Pennsylvania that was based in Jacksonville. We were contracted by Gold’s gym. Gold’s gym was expanding to downtown Jacksonville. The plan was for me to train trainers and manage the new program. Jacksonville is beautiful, especially the city. I thought moving to Jacksonville was a no brainer. At that time, it was the best business move I could make. Meeting Kris was a bonus.  I relocated in September of 2004.

Apprime, an adverb in Latin translates to "above all"
which succinctly defines my credo,
"fitness above all…mind, body, spirit”

Welcome to my bi-weekly blog!  When I was approached about doing a blog my first thought was do I have time in my busy life.  My second thought was it is a great opportunity to reach out to more people, let them know how I balance my life and help others find ways to balance theirs and lead a more fulfilling life.  I decided realistically writing a blog once a week may not be feasible for me, but I’m sure I could handle a bi-weekly blog.

PLYOMETRICS- Upper Body Emphasis

PLYOMETRICS- Upper Body Emphasis

PLYOPUSHUPIn my last installments I discussed what plyometrics are and why that are so important in terms of training for athletes, physique athletes included. Under that umbrella of plyometrics there are really two areas with which to focus on: upper body plyometrics, and lower body plyometrics. I’m sure when you think about plyometrics, exercises like box jumps and squat jumps come to mind- but what about exercises that are integral in the development of the upper body and the core such as overhead medicine ball slams, Squat throws, and plyometric push ups?

Remember, plyometrics (also known as plyos for short) is the term used to refer to the type of exercise designed to produce fast, powerful movements, and improve the functions of the nervous system.
