Many people I run into think eating healthy is sooo boring. Well I'm here to tell you, with the wealth of recipes that are out there now and with valuable informative websites such as this men's physique site, the wealth of knowledge you should be able to come up with is insane. Literally there is a healthy recipe for most if not all "bad" foods mimicking them. So, get on the internet, grab a book…whatever…just get researching and get your butt in the kitchen because that is where 6 pack abs come from!!! For example, after you workout slam a 30-50 gram whey/casein protein blend shake after you workout. The slow and fast digesting proteins synergistically work together to kickstart the recovery process after a hard workout at the gym. And if you have a sweet tooth, here is a great recipe to try out and also chalked full of healthy fats, fiber and protein, not to mention lots of vitamins and antioxidants.
ALMOND CHOCOLATE DIP
1 1/3 cup raw almonds OR 2/3 cup almond butter…
When it comes to working out, it seems like I run into many people that are trying the next quick program or magazine workout. While magazine workouts may be ok from time to time, you really have to step back and see where you are in your fitness journey and where want to go. Next, visualize yourself achieving where you want to be and then take that INTENSITY with you into the gym.
“The Journey of a Thousand Miles Begins With a Single Step”
This is one of my favorite quotes that I always make an effort to share with others as well as strive to live my life by! Spoken by the ancient Chinese Philosopher Lao-Tzu, it is still very relevant today! Often times we see things as too great or out of reach and that is exactly what they are and will be when focused on as a whole, but when you break them down into smaller steps, you quickly come to realize that before you know it, you climbed a Mountain!
I recently read a little rant by a guy named Christian Thibaudeau about why he doesn’t care for research in strength & conditioning. The jist of the rant was that we shouldn’t wait for research to prove what we already know is working, and that experience is the best way to know what works.
Hello all! Hope your weekend was great!
For my weekend I decided to rest and recover. I bought an Icy Hot therapy pain relief stick and cold and hot medicated patches to help out with my muscle strain in my back.
Monday, I was still feeling the pain when twisting, bending or standing for a long period of time (at work) but still decided to hit the gym. Instead of doing the intense routine I found in the magazine I decided to do a basic circuit training routine at about 50-70% of my max with higher repetitions (20-25) and only resting a few seconds in order to have energy to get through the sets.
Workout routine included: (A good stretching series before starting) One-leg Leg Press, One-leg Calf presses, Deep Squats, Standing behind the head shoulder press, front bar raises, Dumbbell flies, Dumbbell Press, Hammer Curls, Dumbbell Curls, Cable Rows, Bent over dumbbell lateral raise, Rope pull-downs, Tricep extensions, Ab work with the medicine ball.
So I began the day thinking I was going to do a leg workout but had to switch it up when I felt my hamstring was still tender from my last leg workout. Sometimes it’s just better to listen to your body and allow a muscle group to recover rather than risking injury and setting you back in your fitness goals. As with every workout, I charged up my iPod and loaded it with some new tunes to get me in the zone while I warm up.

Eat clean and lean, become a perimeter grocery store shopper. In order to develop, maintain and create a lean physique you must eat clean and lean.
When entering the grocery store or your local market focus on pursuing the perimeter of the store. You might be asking, “Why should my focus be the perimeter Nicholas.” Well, the outside walls of the grocery store contain the essential components of what you need to consume in order to achieve a lean well defined physique. The bottom line is that training hard and eating whatever you desire will take you nowhere. It is what you consume on a daily basis that changes the structure of how you look and feel.

My training has been going well since I’ve been back in Australia. At a minimum I’ve maintained the size I put on in the states and friends have started to note that certain weak body parts are growing bigger. I have however had a few set-backs or obstacles if you will, which I am overcoming at present. Of course a week and a half ago I suffered a calf strain while doing seated calf raises (and it has been healing well). Yesterday I was unlucky again.

While walking around backstage at the Orange County I ran into a number of Men's Physique competitors. John Franco for example is a guy in great shape. You would never guess he was overweight just a year ago. Here is a man that has lost 75 pounds and steped on stage in the best shape of his life...all while approaching 40 years of age when most people make excuses. John is making changes not excuses! You can see John's before shot here to the right. Want to see the new John? Read on!
Aaron Reed crouched under the doorway as he left the auditorium after winning 1st Place in the Aaron Read After Winning 2011 NPC Orlando Metropolitan Men’s Physique. Why crouch you ask? At 6’7” tall, most doorways are a bit of a tight squeeze. Aaron is officially the “Tallest Competitor” to win to date in the Men’s Physique Division. You may have seen his video interview here on MensPhysique.com already…if you haven’t check it out. In the meantime, would you like to see some shots of this amazing physique and get to know Aaron? Read on.
How was your overall experience at the Orlando Metropolitan show?
I had a great time at the Orlando Metropolitan. It was a great opportunity for me to get my feet wet with the class. I want to come from the ground up in the division. By doing more than one show before I head to USA's I feel I am better representation for the class. Many people tried to say they thought I would be too big for the class. This was proof I am not too big but rather and intimidating force for the new Men's Physique Class.
