Eat clean and lean, become a perimeter grocery store shopper. In order to develop, maintain and create a lean physique you must eat clean and lean.
When entering the grocery store or your local market focus on pursuing the perimeter of the store. You might be asking, “Why should my focus be the perimeter Nicholas.” Well, the outside walls of the grocery store contain the essential components of what you need to consume in order to achieve a lean well defined physique. The bottom line is that training hard and eating whatever you desire will take you nowhere. It is what you consume on a daily basis that changes the structure of how you look and feel.
Generally, but not allows you will find a great deal of processed material in the center of the store: food that comes from unnatural sources, food that is pumped with additives, and food that is high in fat, sodium, and sugar. Now, this does not mean you can never consume these foods or enjoy the taste once and awhile, I am simply stating that the perimeter should be your primary focus.
Think about it from this perspective. A great deal of food on the perimeter tends to be from the earth, from the farm, or from the sea. Yes, you will find junk and terrible sources of food along the way but divert yourself to the quality choices like fresh fruit, fresh vegetables, and lean meats. I do not condone or advise an extreme holistic organic diet. My reasoning is that one should enjoy the flavors of life in order to be successful for a lifetime, but consume in moderation over the long haul. Your focus should be the lean choices that are low in fat, sodium, and sugar. On a side note, change up your lean choices. For example, if your workout stays the same over a period of time, then you will become stagnate and never move forward….the same applies with your dietary habits. Get crazy and switch it up.
Here is an example of my meal the other evening: Sautéed (with PAM) squash, portabella mushroom, red bell pepper, onion, and a single chicken breast. I then proceeded by topping it off with crush red peppers and a glaze of balsamic vinaigrette. A great example of a….. clean and lean meal.
