Meet IFBB Pro Collin Humphrey

Joining us today is IFBB Pro Collin Humphrey. Collin LA Congrats on a great showing and earning your card!  What made you decide to compete in the Men’s Physique Division?

Well I first got introduced to the NPC and IFBB about 3 years ago. I was training hard in the gym and figured why not just compete; I was putting the work in anyways. So I might as well do something with it. It seemed like every time I tried to do a body building show something would come up, until men’s physique came around. I was excited and thought that men’s physique was perfect for me! I Made the decision in March to compete and never looked back..

Can you tell us a little about the Competition you just competed in?

My last show was my pro debut in LA and the Grand Prix, I took second place. I feel very honored to have done so well. I am happy with my body right now and I’m glad the judges were too. All the guys looked great, so I felt good to be able to be on stage with them. I got some good criticism back from the judges, so I plan to work on some things and get ready for the Europa in Orlando.

How did you feel after pre-judging?

I was nervous and excited at the same time. I felt pretty good since I was in the first call out. I had set a goal before the show; that I would be in the top 3. So I was happy to have been in the first call out. I felt happy with my body and just hoped the judges felt the same way. I just told myself that just being able to be on that stage with all of the other pro physique competitors was an honor and whatever the outcome, it would be ok.

How did you feel about the final results of the show?

I was very pleased with placing second. Like I said, I got good criticism from the judges, which I felt I needed to move forward. It gave me an insight on the things I needed to improve on. So moving forward, this second place will only make me push that much harder to be the top men’s physique competitor. I do believe with God, hard work, and dedication a person can do anything they put their mind to.

What are your thoughts on the Men's Physique Division and what it may be able to do for your career?

I think Men’s Physique is an awesome division. I believe it will completely blow up, which it already has. Lately I’ve been noticing a ton of guys training locally for the Men’s Physique. I think that it can also help with my fitness career, modeling, acting, etc.. Really the opportunities are endless. I am anxious and excited to see what this year brings!

Age: 24301562 10150378144263898 517918897 8096399 1816434899 n

Hometown: I have two; I lived half my life in California and the other in Tennessee. So Fortuna, CA and Portland, TN

Current city: I currently reside in Greensboro NC

Years training:

I started working out when I was a freshman in High school for football. I wasn’t really training to my full potential until about 4 years ago when I really started learning about the importance of nutrition, supplementation, and training correctly. I don’t know everything but am always learning more. I don’t feel that anyone knows everything due to everything constantly changing. Plus no one likes a know it all.

Education:  High school and 2 years at college of the redwoods in California.

Occupation: I am a business manager

Favorite type of training: I like to mix it up with some High intensity explosive training and some slow controlled movements on negatives and positives. I also enjoy HIIT(high intensity interval training)

Favorite body part to train: Chest

Favorite exercise: Incline Press

Rep range: Off season 8 to 12, getting ready for a show 10 to 20

Number of sets: 3 to 4

Typical workout duration:

My typical workout duration is a little more when I am not getting ready for a show.  It is about 1 hour and 30 min with 20 to 30 min of cardio 3 times per week in the a.m. or after my workouts. When I am trying to get ready for a show it is usually about an hour of high intensity training with 5 days of morning cardio a week, sometimes I will do morning and evening cardio. I actually like doing cardio and sometimes do too much. But I like to be ready for my shows about two weeks early. With this much cardio my body is never more than 2 to 4 weeks out from a show.

Training split:
I change my workouts up every couple of months. So my body never gets used to what I am doing. My current split is:
Monday: chest and bis
Tuesday: legs
Wed: abs and cardio
Thursday: back, traps and rear delts
Friday: shoulders and triceps
Saturday: abs, calves and cardio
Sunday: rest day or I will do some cardio

Typical daily eating plan:
I believe in a healthy lifestyle, I eat healthy nearly all the time and will eat bad occasionally, to trick my body since I have a really fast metabolism. A healthy lifestyle year round is a major part of having a lean and healthy body. Nutrition goes 100% with training. Right now my meal plan is:

Meal #1: 7 egg white’s scrambled and 1 whole egg over medium. With ¾ c of oatmeal with a little vanilla protein, walnuts and almonds, and some black berries and blueberries, sometimes strawberries.

Meal #2: 1 scoop of Complete nutrition’s V-Core and one scoop of ISO100, with 2 tbsp. of a mix of almond and peanut butter.

Meal #3: 8 oz of Chicken breast , grilled asparagus and 6 to 8 oz of sweet potatoes with all natural salsa.

Meal #4: 6 oz of chicken with ½ c of brown rice.

Meal 5: Post workout I drink a protein shake with a carb directly after my workout.

Meal 6: Tilapia and 6 oz of sweet potatoes with some broccoli.

Meal 7: 50g protein shake or 8 oz of chicken with a vegetable.

Favorite supplement:collin-1-4 Complete Nutrition’s Titan protein and multivitamin
