Thank you Ian, it was a 24/7 commitment but worth every minute of it. I started off just bouncing in a club, and I was approached by a fellow bouncer who told me about the Physique Class that is being introduced to the NPC. Now, he had my attention. He explained what it would entail and then I was fortunate enough to be introduced to Dan Hawtin from G-Force. Dan saw my potential for being a Pro in this division. He took me under his wing, welcomed me to the team and put me to work every day while monitoring my diet and figure while he and the rest of the team gave their full support. I trained for my first show 10 days out. I dropped 15 pounds and took home second place. The drastic improvement within those 10 days proved to the both of us what could be accomplished with even more time for the next show. Continue support and monitoring, long hours and dieting I took second place in the next show less than one month later at the Atlantic States. Two weeks after that, second in the Jr Nationals and then second in Team Universe where I received my IFBB Pro Card. We joke how the number two haunts me! HAHA
Can you tell us a little about the Competition you just competed in?
With intense training and dieting, for the past three months I was in the best shape that I had ever looked in any of my last three competitions. I was ready for this and felt the most confident yet. We had a new posing routine set because at the Jr Nationals it appeared the judges were looking for more personality. Needless to say every judge’s expectations are different and then, the number 2 haunts again. This competition was to keep it simpler.
How did you feel after pre-judging? After Pre-Judging I felt great. Although there were some great competitors, I felt the most conditioned on stage. However, you never actually know what exactly the judges are looking for so it was any body’s win. There, I was called toward the center, which is always a good thing.
How did you feel about the final results of the show?
Well, needless to say, first would have been sweeter than second but I was just proud and relieved that two Pro-cards were handed out for this competition. Getting a Pro-card was my goal as well as becoming the youngest male IFBB Pro. So many emotions were running through my head. When I got off stage and saw the excitement in my Coach Dan’s face, we hugged each other and said “we did it”. Second was a little easier to take after that.
What are your thoughts on the Men's Physique Division and what it may be able to do for your career? I think that the Men’s Physique Division is a great idea and very marketable. It gives the average person the opportunity to look up to somebody and know that they can also set these standards and achieve their goals. After seeing over 3,000 people request me as a friend on Facebook and support me as well as tell me what an inspiration I have been, it makes me push myself even more to be the best I can be. Not only for myself but to make a possible difference in someone else’s life. I was very lucky to have my Unit from the United States Air Force support my decisions to compete for a Pro-card. Scheduled for deployment, they put their faith in my career choice. I was held off on this deployment. I am proud to accomplish my goal and prove to my unit that I would not let them down and I am grateful for their support. Now, holding the Pro-card many doors will open in my fitness career. I hope to achieve an acting career as well as modeling. I also hope to continue my education in fitness and nutrition in order to help other obtain their dreams as well.
