What do you feel is the WORST part of contest prep?
Balancing my time between hitting the gym, prepping meals, growing a business, and working a full time job. I consciously have to remember to reach out to and make time for friends and family. As I transition into my second show, the training schedule is easier. It really does become a “lifestyle” and as I accept (and celebrate) that lifestyle, it becomes easier to balance.
Would you please tell us a little about your workout schedule?
To prep for The Rocky, I lifted 6 days a week with 25 minutes of HIIT 7 days a week. There was emphasis on building my shoulders to give me more of an hourglass shape. To prep for my next show, I was able to get a lean gain phase in and blew out the rear of my favorite pair of jeans.
If you had to lose one of your 5 senses, which one would you prefer to lose and why?
It would have to be my sense of smell. There’s too much in the world I still want to see. Plus my ability to make a living depends on a keen set of eyes.
If you could change one thing about this sport what would it be?
There isn’t much I would change about this sport. I’ve always played team sports and this is the first time I’ve participated in a sport that is individual. It can be very lonely, but whenever you are trying to achieve something, at times you find yourself alone. I’m lucky to be on team Elite Physique from where I draw encouragement, support, and inspiration.
If you had a time capsule what would you put inside it and why?
Time capsule? I call that Facebook. I’d put my vanity URL www.facebook.com/allisonault. You aren’t going to know me from a few little trinkets. So connect with me online!
What is your favorite vacation spot? I’m an adventurer, so if I can climb a mountain or dive in the ocean, then that’s a great spot. I don’t care if it has a fancy hotel. I’ll pitch a tent or relax in a bungalow.
What advice do you have for women who would like to get involved in and compete in the sport of bodybuilding?
Surround yourself with people who support your true self, give you smart advice, and keep their promises. Even though this is an individual sport you’ll depend on a lot of people to help you be successful. Also break down your ultimate goal into smaller manageable goals and congratulate yourself on reaching those small successes. Take it one week and one day at a time.
What is a day-in-the-life of Allison Ault like?
As a native Coloradan, you can find me playing in the mountains. I’m either hitting jumps on my snowboard or climbing 14ners (mountains over 14,000 ft). I’m an online marketer by trade and own a company called Show&Tan providing airbrush tans and makeup for stage. I love cooking and am secretly planning my escape to deep dive every day in Vietnam.
Favorite Motivational Quote: Go over, go under, go around, or go through, but never give up.
In closing, who would you like to give a shout out to? I would like to thank my trainer Adam Bonilla for his guidance, my clients whose success stories inspired me to compete, and my unconditionally supportive friends, in particular Leah Thomson and Lauren Atkins who are my “sistah” competitors!
