In your opinion, how important is motivation and confidence when aiming to accomplish a goal?

In all things motivation and confidence are key. You have to changphoto(5)e your perspective almost on a daily basis to stay motivated. Without drive, determination and motivation a goal is just a wish. Motivation is it's fuel. Confidence is golden. You can go anywhere and do all things with confidence. Besides, confidence is sexy!

 

 In your eyes, what combination of hard work and natural ability is needed to reach the top?

I always tell my daughter that hard work beats talent when talent doesn't work hard. In my opinion, having natural ability is a great blessing but often taken for granted. When you have to go through struggles to get to your result it is much more rewarding and the lessons are lifelong.

 

What are some motivational strategies that have or currently work for you?

The best kind of motivation is the kind you give yourself. I like to write down my small goals in my journal and check them often. My larger goals I write down and then hide them. At the end of the year I like to go back and look at the goals I gave myself. I then assess what I could have done differently and what I did well. When I write my goals down they become a promise I make to myself. I don't like to break promises! I also make a vision board if I am having a difficult time seeing the light at the end of the tunnel. Above all, I pray.

 

Give me some examples from your life where confidence has helped you to achieve?

Unfortunately, most of my life was spent without confidence. In my late twenties I found myself being a superhero for everyone except myself. I needed a challenge outside of my comfort zone and competing was just that. Every week of training I found myself becoming more confident, not because of the way my body was changing but because for the first time I felt strong emotionally, physically and spiritually.

Confidence led me to my IFphotoBB Pro card. I didn't get that because I was better than anyone. I am living my dream because I believed in myself when no one else would, because I set goals and consistently worked towards them.

 

What do you find the most challenging about competing?

I am a married mother of two, Christian, 5 and Jalela 14. What I find most challenging about competing is juggling my families schedule with my work schedule and training. My daughter plays AAU basketball, track and volleyball. With her schedule alone and my training schedule, it becomes a balancing act.

 

What are your top 5 key strategies for success?

Have short term and long term goals

Surround yourself with positivity

Change your perspective. Things will not always be smooth. Learn to embrace adversity.

Do not try to please everyone. It is your life. One life. Live it!

Have balance. Make your goals a priority, yes, but don’t forget to live and enjoy those around you.

 

What is your favorite protein powder? Why do you like it?

This is a tricky question. I do love Beverly International's UMP because it is so versatile. I can bake with it and the consistency never lets me down. For pre-workout I am in love with All Max Iso Flex Chillers. They have different flavors as opposed to vanilla, chocolate and strawberry.

I would love to give a shout out to my biggest inspiration, my family consisting of my daughter Jaela my son Christian and my ever patient husband Erick. My three sisters, seven aunts and my grandmother for showing me how to be a woman.
