In your opinion, how important is motivation and confidence when aiming to accomplish a goal? They are both very important to accomplishing any goal. Motivation keeps me driven to push harder and to continue to work even when I may not feel up to it. Confidence is the belief that not only will I accomplish the goal, but will exceed it.
In your eyes, what combination of hard work and natural ability is needed to reach the top? Natural ability is great to have, but without hard work, there will be no real success. So the combination would have to be higher for hard work and lesser for natural ability. An athlete with natural ability still has to work in order to reach the top.
What are some motivational strategies that have or currently work for you? Realizing that I’m not where I want to be. Setting new goals that have to be reached. Taking pictures to show my progress! And whenever I get down, I always refer back to a picture of me when I was overweight and depressed. Motivates me to keep going!
Give me some examples from your life where confidence has helped you to achieve? I’ve been a nurse for 17 years, with 14 years of critical care experience ; so when I was ready to try something else, I brought that experience along with my confidence in my nursing abilities when applying for the supervisor position that I’m now in. When I started my bodybuilding career, I wasn’t sure how far I would take it, but I knew that I would do well because of the work that I was willing to put in. I was equally confident getting on stage and competing to earn my pro card. None of that would have been possible without confidence.
What do you find the most challenging about competing? The strict diet that I’m on is very challenging to me. I’m on a strict Ketogenic diet created by Cliff Bomar of Hardbodies International. I love to eat carbs so this is hard at times. But this diet has helped mold me into the best competition shape ever, so that motivation keeps me from cheating and to stay the course.
What are your top 5 key strategies for success? 1. Out work everybody else. 2. Stay dedicated. 3. Set yearly goals and complete them. 4. Find my spiritual center. 5. Be confident that I’ve done my best.
What is your favorite protein powder? Why do you like it? Isopure no carb Cookies and Cream by Nature’s Best! Has no carbs, no sugar, and it taste good!
Favorite Inspirational Quote: Dear God, Today I woke up, I’m healthy. I’m alive. I’m blessed. I apologize for all my complaining. I’m truly grateful!
In closing, Who would you like to give a shout out to? I first have to always thank and acknowledge God, because without him, nothing is possible! My family and friends who have supported me relentlessly! My sponsor Liquid Sun Rayz, the best tanning company around! Last but not least Pam York, IFBB Figure pro who helped me to lose 60#s and introduced me to this sport 5 years ago and saved my life. I shall be forever thankful!
