UK's Graham Hicks On 2014 WSM Run Up

The Visitor, Lancashire, England.

A Morecambe strongman is confident he can have an excellent 2014 after taking on the world’s best strength athletes for a second time.

Channel 5 viewers saw Graham Hicks finish fifth in his World’s Strongest Man heat in Sanya, China on December 27 and miss out on a place in the final.

But the design support engineer at BAE Systems is confident he can go from strength to strength as he comes up to four years in the sport.

The 28-year-old said: “If I go again I’ll be prepared better.

“Now at the Muscle Factory and Salt Ayre the kit we’ve got set up is so varied that I can train all the events.

“Over the last couple of years I’ve only been able to train certain events at certain times.

“But I’ve now got a keg toss set up at the Muscle Factory which in previous years I’ve never been able to train.

“As long as I stay injury free it’s looking like it could be a good 2014.”

After a strong start Hicks faded in the extreme Chinese heat, but he is still positive about the overall experience.

He said: “The competition was over a few days so as it progressed I got tired and started to feel a bit unwell.

“It was really hard to get hydrated.

“Even if I’d performed to my best in a couple of the events I’d have been happier it was under-performing that disappointed me.

“But it was still a good experience and I can take a lot of positives from it.”
