Spotlight On: NPC Figure Competitor Katie Math

Spotlight On: NPC Figure Competitor Katie Math

Category you compete in: FigureAJ Morton 2013 (7)
Date of birth: 08/31/1986
Hometown: Westminster, Colorado
Career: Healthcare Administration

Competition history: 2013 Colorado GNC Natural

Next competition: My plan is to compete in a year after my boyfriend does his competition in April. We decided it is hard on a relationship prepping and supporting each other is key to success in competing. Plan to build muscle and get better definition in my legs to bring a better package next year. As for a specific show I am not planning anything currently may look into an out of state show.

How has your life changed since you adopted this lifestyle and started competing?
In the last year my life has completely changed. I have found my true friends, stopped drinking and going to as many social events, and overall health has dramatically improved. I traded happy hours for gym time and whatever time I am free I rest or spend with my loved ones.

What have you found to be the best way to balance family, friends, career, this lifestyle, etc…
The balance I have found is always putting myself first when getting ready for a show and getting as much rest as possible. My prep and job were first priority everything else if I had time or felt able to go to social events I would make time. It was a hard adjustment for me and some of my friends to understand my goals. Typically most people who don’t compete will never understand so I just explain and move forward staying positive. My family always has been important so I would try to make an effort on the weekends to see them.

If you could change places with one competitor for the day who would it be and why?
Nicole Wilkins is someone whom since I decided to compete I have idolized. Nicole not only is a bad ass three times Olympia winner she reminds Math (54)me a lot of myself. Constantly watch her videos and follow her posts she always gives me positive and resourceful information to better myself. Honestly believe Nicole’s training style and nutrition planning is valuable.

Name two of the most inspirational people in your life and tell why they inspire you.
Troy Guillory he has helped me and supported me through my transformation and prep. Also, he has competed and has shown me what hard work and dedication is in order to step on stage as well as succeed in my personal goals. My brother is my hero he is an injured veteran who had a fusion on his spine and continues to better himself with crossfit and providing for his daughter.

Tell one recipe or supplement you can’t live without.
In prep recipe that saved my life was oatmeal and egg white pancakes, since I was not a fan I combined the two added some cinnamon and stevia, fried in a pan . Post comp nutrition plan my go to supplement is Dymatize Elite Whey Isolate Protein with organic 2% milk, perfect fix for chocolate milk.

Tell about a typical training day for you.  What exercises, how many sets/reps…etc…
My normal routine right now post competition is still waking up and doing fasting cardio at least 5 times a week. Lately with my diet I have been going 7 days a week due to my extra calories. For lifting I am following John Meadows Reactive Pump program and lift with my boyfriend. This pushes me to lift harder and also can help each other watch our form. Exercises vary from 3-4 sets with 8-20 reps on exercises. Mixed in with stretching and bands in the work outs to. After lifting always do 35-45 minutes of cardio or HIIT.

In closing, Who would you like to give a shout out to?
Troy Guillory my amazing boyfriend who is a bodybuilder and love him to the moon and back! We met over a year and a half ago while he was prepping for his second local show. He motivated me and also coached me through transforming my body and helped me lose my first 100 pounds.

Additionally, would like to thank my family and friends who supported me through the process and encourage me to keep pushing!
