What do you feel is the WORST part of contest prep?  Meal Prep, the monotony of it can be annoying at times.

Would you please tell us a little about your workout schedule?  I like to hit my fasted cardio EARLY, like when it’s dark out still.  It helps me to start my day out in a focused and “Zen” manner.  Less external distractions like the phone, FB, or waiting for people on machines.  Time permitted, I try to squeeze in my training at this time too, but only if there is ample time, otherwise I’ll take the time NEEDED and do my training and HiiT cardio in the evening.  It’s encouraging sometimes to workout with others around, it pushes you and forces you to be accountable because you know someone has his or her eyes on you.

If you had to lose one of your 5 senses, which one would you prefer to lose and why?  Smell, I hate walking into a gym and it smelling like a middle school, boys locker room! lol

If you could change one things about this sport what would it be?  The perspectives we allow others to think about the sport.  For me, it’s how I represent my life ‘daily’. It’s important to me for people to see why I do this, especially because I know I have a lot of “little” eyes that watch me.  I’m a sower, kids watch me, and I want them to grasp the healthy habits I’ve formed.  That is what I hope people would promote more of.
If you had a time capsule what would you put inside it and why?  Memories of My nieces and family, they are the most important, and certainly something I’d want to look at later, to cherish and relive.

What is your favorite vacation spot?
Hawaii, anyday, anytime!

What advice do you have for women who would like to get involved in and compete in the sport of bodybuilding?  You deserve the body of your dreams, drop the excuses, be better, and make the time.  You’re worth it!  You get one body, make it what YOU want it to be!

What is a day-in-the-life of Mary Serna like?
A day in my shoes gattachment-6enerally looks like any other serious athletes, but probably with a little more fun and sass!  I generally wake up, train and do cardio early.  I’ll come home have my post-”Evochem” shake and vitamins with my breakfast, then start getting ready for my day.  I’m blessed to have a flexible schedule so it allows me the time to prepare my meals fresh-daily.  I enjoy this time because I enjoy meal prep as I’m a foodie at heart, so I’ll throw on some Skrillez, or Wiz Khalifa and go to town in the “kitchen”.  This would normally bug most people, however, my perspective is simple, invest in the things that allow you to reach your goals.  What else do you have to lose?  After all, abs are made in the kitchen, so you better believe, I take my meals seriously!

After I’m through, I pack up my 6pack cooler and head off to work!  One of my favorite parts of my job is that I work with kids and they are constant learners, which means they ask a lot of questions! This is what gets me most excited as I believe that healthy habits start early, the more they see, the more they think, the more they think about, the more they ask about, and if it’s a question of healthy habits than I’m happy that it is me that get’s to be the example!  I’d rather know that children, and young teens see that there is a healthy way to achieve your goals by living the example.

Finally, I’ll  finish out my day with the remaining part of my day by preparing my meals for the following day, getting my training plan ready, and enjoying some “junk” T.V. before hitting the pillow.

Favorite Motivational Quote:
“To thine own self stay true”

In closing, Who would you like to give a shout out to?
In closing, I’d like to first like to thank my family.  They have supported and carriattachment-3ed me through every show, with their unfailing love!  Thank you from the bottom of my heart, to my friends, you know who you are.  You never let me down, and stayed with me from beginning to end, thank you!  A huge shout out to my Team, “Bronzed Divas” for the endless support, laughs and motivation no other team can compare to.  We have truly created a family that fosters motivation, inspiration, and most of all, the best “cake makers” around!   My upmost gratitude the BEST Coach, mentor, and friend who took me under his wing with a gentle push, and saw a drive in me that others didn’t.  You continue to push and believe in me, and for that I’m ever thankful.
