Canuck Corner With Natalie Waples #23
Hey Everyone!
I hope you are having a great summer and kicking your training into high gear! This past weekend I finished up a stretch of shows, rounding out July with a 4th place finish at the Chicago Pro Figure. I have had a busy spring since the Ms. Figure International aka Arnold Classic, with top 3 placings at the St Louis Pro, Detroit Pro and Toronto Pro and am now taking a little bit of time off to prepare for what I am hoping will be my 3rd appearance at the IFBB Figure Olympia. With the new Olympia Point Standings race, the rankings can change from show to show, so although I am sitting in 2nd overall right now (and top 5 qualify) things can change quickly and I have to be ready to compete if I need more points – such a nail biter! Here are some stage pictures from my recent shows.
On top of competing I have joined on with Popeye’s Ontario (a very successful Canadian supplement store chain), as their IFBB Pro Figure Correspondent. Each week I provide a fit tip/training idea, etc. to the members of Popeye’s online community, and also promote the chain at various events. Couple that with becoming a newly minted judge for the Ontario Physique Association (NPC state level equivalent) and I have been one busy girl!
The Canadian National Figure, Bikini and Fitness Championships are coming up on August 17th, 2013, and British Columbia will once again play host to hundreds of hopeful Canadian ladies, vying for an IFBB Pro Card. As there are only a few given out at our national event, these pro cards are highly coveted and bring out the best athletes Canada has to offer. This past week, Halifax, Nova Scotia hosted the Canadian Bodybuilding Championships which also turned out some spectacular athletes and a few more pro cards – hope to see these big boys & girls on the IFBB stage soon!
So as you can see there is lots going on north of the border and I am so stoked to see the caliber of athletes Canada is churning out! When I started competing in Figure in 2006 the sport was only 5 years old, but after 7 seasons and over 25 pro shows, I have such a huge appreciation for all that our supporting organizations do for our respective sports, and the athletes. It is great to see how it has grown!
Now this wouldn’t be a true Canuck Corner without a little recipe laced with some Canadian flavour (yes we spell flavour with a ‘u’!), so try this shake on for size (post workout) and you are guaranteed a delicious & nutritious meal replacement, in 2 minutes flat – enjoy!
-1 scoop of your favourite whey protein powder (Vanilla works best but I also love Nutrabolics Cinnamon Oatmeal Isobolic)
-1/2 cup skim or soy milk (your preference)
-1 tbsp. Canadian maple syrup
-1 cup ice
-1/2 small banana
Blend until smooth and serve – volià!
Enjoy July folks and I will check back in come August – Eat, Sleep, Train, Repeat!
