Stephanie Willes Walks Into The Pro Ranks: Hiccup In Your Game Plan: Blog #3
Well folks, it’s the second week of July already! Can you believe it? That means Christmas is right around the corner!!! LOL!
It’s been quite the melting pot here in Las Vegas the last few weeks but being that I’m a desert rat, I can say I am not complaining at all. Keeping the kiddos entertained while being inside for most of the day can be a challenge at times but we are having a great summer so far. The last few days have also been a challenge for me, mentally and physically. If you didn’t know already, I’m kind of a control freak. Ok well I’ll be honest, I’m really quite the control freak! When something doesn’t go as planned its hard for me to deal with. So when you have been dieting for the entire year and you just want to grab something on your diet at Whole Foods, you feel like you can right? Well I got seriously sick from their buffet. I had the egg whites and sweet potato wedges as well as a grape flavored Zevia drink. It has been four days and I’m still feeling the effects of it. Mostly it has mentally drained me and interrupted my positive vibes heading into my first pro show in just under 5 weeks. My stomach has been extremely upset and distended; also with the inflammation I tend to hold water so I just look blah at this moment. I have such a great support system with my husband and friends that they remind me of how my determination has gotten me so far already and not to lose sight of my goals. This is hard to do when things don’t go as planned. I’m looking at it as a minor hiccup in this prep and have sent in my contracts for 2 pro shows back to back in August. I’m brushing that little incident off and now that being a pro doesn’t make me invincible, it gives me even more strength and determination to strive to be the best in this amazing sport!
I have been trying a few new proteins lately and I must say that I really have been enjoying the MyoFusion Peanut Butter Cookie Dough, it’s the sweetest protein I’ve ever tried and it hasn’t upset my tummy, which is always a good thing. Metabolic Nutrition has amazing proteins as well with digestive enzymes that I really enjoy. I’m enjoying some new flavors and new companies all while broadening my experience with them so I can one day say, yes I am a sponsored athlete and these are the products I love and live by!
My workouts have been really good but I must say my recovery is not as great as I would like it to be. I really want to improve on my glute/ham area and I need to condition that quite a bit more to be at the pro level. So I’m stepping up my cardio as well by adding in 30 minutes at night with my weight training, that’s on top of my 45 I do in the morning before I eat. I’ll keep an eye on myself when I practice posing every day to make sure I am not getting to stringy everywhere else.
I’m looking forward to a great week with lots of positive energy and loads of fun with my kids. Movie Tuesday and Wet N Wild Wednesday!! Another exciting thing that happened last week is that I enrolled in college full time for the fall semester. I have yet to take a full class load because of the fear I wouldn’t be able to do it all and do it well. So this semester is my defining moment! I can do it, I know I can!! Oh and I almost forgot the purchase of my very own Jan Tana Airbrush system and Pop up Tent that will be delivered this week!! Oh the exciting things we look forward too as a competitor.
Many of you know that I haven’t used a coach for any of my contest prep. My husband and I have put our heads together and have done it ourselves. So I wanted to share with you my diet plan and how I arrange it to fit my sensitive stomach and ulcerative colitis. I have tried to eat vegetables, and I love them and miss them dearly! But with my condition I cannot eat them at all, I avoid them all together when I’m dieting because I just don’t know when it could send me into a full blown flare up. My fiber intake daily is only 15 grams a day. I have to keep it so low because my digestive tract will get inflamed by too much fiber. I eat ¼ cup cream of wheat in the morning with a scoop of protein and stevia mixed in it and on occasion I like to do egg whites with 4 oz of sweet potato instead. I also like to eat every 2 hours instead of every 3. I find the smaller meals with smaller amounts of protein eaten more often throughout the day keep me fuller longer and keep my stomach happy. I stick to protein shakes, egg whites, tuna, tilapia, and chicken while dieting and my only carbs are from sweet potato and cream of wheat. I have also found out that coffee and tea of any kind hurt my stomach as well. So of course I needed to come up with a solution because I just love sitting down after my chicken meal with a hot cup of something. It’s the ritual or act of doing it that I love. I take Stevia, 2 tbsp of sugar free creamer and water, mix it together, warm it up in the microwave and voila, you have my famous creamer latte!! Hey don’t knock it till you try it!!!
Ok that’s it for this week Rx Family!! Enjoy some outdoor activities with your family, get in some killer workouts this week and remember to stay positive even when you have a little hiccup in your game plan. The strong will come out on top!
