The 2013 America's Strongest Man is now a memory. Current World's Strongest Man Brian Shaw handily wins his first ASM event with NewB Robert Oberst and even NewB'er Dimitar Savitinov rounding out the podium. This video is purely for fun... though it is dedicated to Bre Hatfield, daughter of former America's Strongest Man Van Hatfield. She has just wrapped up her third round of chemo and is preparing for surgery, all at the age of 14. She is a brave beautiful young woman and from the entire RxMuscle staff and fans, our thoughts are with you babe!
Matt Sohmer, preparing for the WDFPF World Championships where he will defend his title from last year at only 19 years of age nailed a 810lb raw, walked out squat without knee wraps in training recently.
Several months ago Mike Johnston and Bryan Hildebrand of the Rx Power Hour Strength Radio program talked about ASC Pro Strongman Tomas Rodriguez' impressive Hammer Curl in the Log Clean and Press. Obviously, curling a 400lb log is not the preferred method of bringing it to your chest, but that is how Tomas did it. Tomas, after listening to our show gleened our advice and came into this years America's Strongest Man with a whole new PERFECT form in the event. He even set a new PR in the process. In this PSST video, Mike shows us the subtly of Tomas' impressive changes.
Brian Shaw returns on Day 2 of the 2013 America's Strongest Man and wins the first event, The Five Keg Press Medley. These kegs weighed from a starting weight of 200lbs all the way up to a 330lb MONSTER!
Dimitar Savitinov, the former Ringling Bros and Barnum and Bailey Circus Strongman turned pro just a few months ago. He had made the statement on the Rx Power Hour Strength radio program that he felt he was comparable to the likes of Brian Shaw, Mike Jenkins, Mike Burke, etc. and just needed the chance to prove himself correct. Dimitar showed up in Vegas for the 2013 America's Strongest Man event with his head held high and plowed through the competition with consistent placings. He wound up an impressive third place overall when the weekend was done.
The 2012 America's Strongest Man Micheal Burke was certainly considered a heavy favorite coming into this years event, but as fate would have it, his trademark strength grip took a blow and knocked him out of the show. Mike was loading the third keg into the Giant Wheelbarrow. As his hand slipped, his middle finger was caught under the 300lb aluminum beast and nearly took the end of his finger off. Mike, the beast that he is, bled his way through the end of the event and in classic style, won!
Robert Oberst burst onto the scene last summer after winning his pro card at the ASC's Dallas Europa Supershow. Roughly 7 weeks later, Robert arrived at the America's Strongest Man event and in the first event, established a new American Record in the Log Press. Fast forward, Robert qualifies via Giants Live to his first Worlds Strongest Man and makes it to the finals. Robert this year battled food poisoning and after a rough Day 1, comes back with a vengance to runner up behind the current Worlds Strongest Man, Brian Shaw. Here, "Obie" talks about his weekend and how he feels Brian Shaw feels about him.
The 2013 version of America's Strongest Man saw the deepest talent pool in it's nearly 20 year history. Five athletes representing the U.S. at Worlds just four weeks ago came into this contest fresh off their performances to resume battle, but this time was to determine who the best in the U.S. really was. Mike Johnston, Jon Andersen and Bryan Hildebrand take a look back at the weekend and bring you the highlights of what is arguably the best Strongman contest ever held in the U.S.
