In your opinion, how important is motivation and confidence when aiming to accomplish a goal?
SUPER important! I believe everything you do in life you should approach with confidence; no matter what the task or goal. If you don't have confidence, it will never be the best you can do. Similarly, you must be motivated in order to really invest your entire self into anything. I'm an all or nothing type of girl - if I'm going to work towards a goal, I give it 100% of everything I got!!
When it comes to competing, motivation and confidence are a MUST! If you don't have the drive for it, there's no point. You have to want it; you have to work for it. This year I was prepping for the Ft. Lauderdale Cup. I was training, dieting, and doing everything I was supposed to; however, my body wasn't responding. For some reason I just wasn't motivated and couldn't find the drive... It just wasn't my time. Now... I've found the motivation. I’m so ready and excited for the 2014 competition season. It's my time and I've got the confidence to shine!
In your eyes, what combination of hard work and natural ability is needed to reach the top?
Nothing but hard work!!! There are the few who are just naturally blessed with amazing genetics, metabolism, and poise, but for the rest of us anything can be accomplished with hard work.
What are some motivational strategies that have or currently work for you?
As silly as it may sound, I always visualize my goal. Whatever it is, picture it. If it's getting on stage, looking hot hot hot in a dress or finishing a race…no matter what the goal is, think about it. See it in your mind.
There are those days when I walk into the gym at 5am, look at that big giant stepmill and want to cry. I close my eyes picture myself walking across the stage, everyone looking, judges judging, and suddenly I want.... No need..... To kill this cardio!!!
Give me some examples from your life where confidence has helped you to achieve?
Confidence has helped me to achieve everything! From my career to earning my pro card, without being confident there is no way I would be where I am today.
What do you find the most challenging about competing?
For me the most challenging part of competing is finding balance. Being able to train and diet but also not missing out all the joys in life. In the past, when preparing for a competition that was all I did. Eat/train/work/sleep/repeat. I missed out on so many occasions and events because I was so scared it would derail me from my plan. Now, I’ve found more balance. You can take Tupperware anywhere... And if it's not allowed there are plenty of places you can hide baggies of chicken lol. I've learned to step outside of my comfort zone and keep things exciting. You can get a workout in anywhere; add in some plyos and intervals and your set to go... No matter where you are. You only get one life and I want to enjoy every second of it.
What are your top 5 key strategies for success?
1. Always do it for you.... Make yourself happy and want it because it's what YOU want!
2. Have a positive attitude...Not every day is going to be easy. If you keep your mind positive and push through you will succeed. When it's really hard.... Fake it ‘til you make it. Tell yourself over and over how awesome it is, how fun it is, how much you love it (whatever "it" is) and eventually you will feel it.
3. There are no shortcuts... If you skip this and skip that you will end right where you started. Hard work is the only way.
4. No excuses.... Tomorrow never comes; it's always today! Don't put it off until tomorrow. You can't make it up tomorrow, NOW! Just do it!
5. Be strong, be confident, be beautiful.
What is your favorite protein powder? Why do you like it?
I absolutely LOVE AAEFX NF-PRO. It tastes absolutely delicious and mixes great with water. The quality and taste can't be beat.
I bake a lot of yummy protein snacks, which I usually use Gaspari Myofusion for. It makes my treats moist, delicious and healthy.
Favorite Inspirational Quote:
“I want it; I need it; I deserve to have it!”
Try it! It can be applied to anything and everything!
In closing, Who would you like to give a shout out to?
I would like to give a great big thank you to all my friends and family that have supported me through the years. First and foremost I’d like to thank my loving boyfriend and best friend for always supporting me and dealing with my craziness. I'll be the first to admit I'm not the easiest person to deal with, and I do some strange things (especially during prep), but he’s always right there next to me. I couldn't have made it through the last two years without the guidance of my former coach Eric Broser and all the support and motivation he provided as a member of team Broser Built. I'm excited for the 2014 contest season and have teamed up with Fahkri Mubarak to bring a completely revamped package to the IFBB Bikini stage. Look for me to shock the bikini division in 2014!
