Spotlight On NPC Bikini Competitor: Kara Corey

Spotlight On NPC Bikini Competitor: Kara Corey

Category you compete in: BikiniIFBB3

Date of birth: 10/1/1983

Hometown:  Small town of Massena, NY (right near Canadian border, about as far north as you can go in NY).  Our main chain restaurant chain was Ponderosa ;)

Career: I am a Registered Dietitian & I worked as a clinical dietitian at a NY State Psychiatric Center for 5 years.  This past year I was promoted to the role of Nutrition Services Administrator, so I now oversee & manage the entire Nutrition Department.

How does your family respond to your competing?

Prior to competing I used to run marathons, so my family was used to my crazy fitness goals. They have always been 100% supportive of what I do if it makes me happy even if they don’t quite understand all the dieting & hours I put into working out.

What kind of goals have you set for yourself, short-term and long-term?

Short Term- I have yet to win 1st place at a local level so that is next in line for me. I’d also like to continue to grow my YouTube channel to help motivate others to take charge of their health and pursue their fitness goals (KaraLeigh83)

Long Term – Becoming an IFBB Bikini Pro is a huge dream of mine! Along with that I would also like to use my credentials as a Registered Dietitian to help inspire and train other girls who are new to the world of competing.

What's currently on your iPod

What isn’t would probably be an easier question – I like a variety of music- depending on my mood, and what I am training will dictate what I listen to. For cardio I like the pop stuff – Britney Spears, Rhinnea, Kesha, etc.  For weight lifting I like anything from Lil John, DMX, to Underoath, and Thursday.

What are your hobbies and interests outside of the bodybuilding world?

I love spending time with my husband & my 5 ½ yr old English bulldog Winston, and my family/friends..  In the summer time I like going to my parents caIFBB2mp in Upstate NY and just relaxing by a fire or going out on the boat.  I am a huge homebody and after training so hard I do love just relaxing & watching movies.

Do you have a favorite exercise?

I love the instant pump you get when working shoulders and it’s an area I am continuing to try to grow.  So I would say lateral raises/front raises and overhead presses are some of my favorite movements to do for shoulders. For cardio I am loving Jacobs Ladder lately for an efficient intense cardio session– that thing is a beast and kicks my butt (and has it burning) in 5 minutes!

Competition history:

Rochester NPC 2012 – 4th place

Albany NPC 2012 – 5th place

North Americans Pittsburgh 2012 (my first national show)- Didn’t place

Buffalo NPC 2013– 3rd place

Next competition:

Rochester NPC 2013

Hopefully I will redeem myself at North Ameicans this August with a top ten placing ;)

Who would you like to thank?

All the trainers from WellRounded Health and Fitness, which includes Jeramy and Kim Freeman who got me into competing and taught me everything I know.

My prep coach Chris Villa, always keeping me in check and making sure I am staying positive.

Danielle Sereluca, IFBB Figure Pro, as she’s been working with me on toning my legs and booty more.

My husband and all my friends and family who help keep me motivated even when I am under carbed and a cranky pants!
