#FitSpire Of The Week: Samantha Green

Name: Samantha Green

Age: 24

Hometown or cuimage-5rrent residence: H/T- Love, Saskatchewan, Canada

Q: Tell me about your competitive history.

A: I did my first competition in 2010 with the WBFF where I placed 3rd in bikini. After falling in love with the challenge to better my physique I competed in two more WBFF shows till I gained status of my Pro card in 2011. I then competed in “Inside Fitness Cover Model” Search in 2013 where I won 1st place in Bikini.

Q: When did you get started on your fitness career/journey? What made you want to become more than just the average person living a healthy and fit lifestyle?

A: After one year of competing and discovering my hidden passion for health and fitness I began working independently as a certified personal trainer to be able to share my passion with others. Realizing how rewarding it felt to help someone emotionally and physically gain balance in their lives was motivating to me to brand myself in the industry to be able to reach out and inspire more people.

Q: Being that you have a loyal social media following, what is some advice that you would offer someone wanting to increase their popularity in the Fitness industry? What tip can you give someone to help them build their following as well?

A: Market yourself through social media (Fb, IG, twitter, blogs, etc.), gain exposure through fitness shows (although, competing isn’t for everyone), seek out sponsorship with supplement companies and work with reputable fitness photographers to be published. These are all great ways to build a following.

When building your following, give people a reason to follow. Find a way to separate yourself from the rest and build credibility to your name/brand. And DO NOT make social media posts about things you are uneducated on. That just puts you in line with misinformed cookie cutter broscience athletes. ;-) BE YOURSELF.

Q: Do you consider this as your part/full time job or a hobby?

A: Yes I do consider fitness a part time job as I work with my clients through online coaching services and do marketing for my sponsors’ brands via social media. My own training in the gym I would consider a hobby. I love working out with my training partners in the mornings and making that “my time”.

Q: There are many people that motivate and are inspired by you. How does that make you feel knowing that there are people who take the time to see what you are doing day to day?

A: I couldn’t be more humbled to think that others look up to me for motivation. It honestly drives me to put forth the best version of myself knowing that it inspires someone else out there. It’s strange how it works, but motivating other is actually very self-motivating to one’s self too.

Q: How does it feel knowing that somewhere, you are actually helping someone by motivating them to achieve their personal goals, just by posting your personal life and achievements on social media?

A: It’s honestly a very rewarding feeling to hear that I have helped someone in some way without even realizing it. I feel very blessed to be able to reach out to so many people simply by doing what I love most and leading by example.

Q: Is there anyone who has motivated or inspired you to become the person you are today?

A: My mentor Kendra Dietrich from Calgary, AB, Canada is the one person I have always looked up to and been inspired by. I undoubtedly could not be more thankful for the amount of time Kendra put forth to teach me and guide me through my fitness endeavors from day one.

Q: How does your family feel about your lifestyle? What would you say to someone whose family does not support their lifestyle?

A: Considering I grew up on a farm in Saskatchewan, you can only imagine how my family felt when I chose the path of fitness. They became very accepting after coming to terms with how passionate I was about wanting to help inspire others to lead a healthier/ happier life.

I encourage those who have lack of family support to simage.pngurround themselves with people who live a similar lifestyle and never lose focus of what matters most to you. Family will always come around once they understand how happy your lifestyle makes you.

Q: Of all the social media outlets (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc.), what do you think is the most effective to use in order to market yourself in this industry?

A: I believe they are all beneficial. But in my opinion, I find the most feedback comes from Instagram nowadays.

Q: What is your diet like? Do you eat clean all year round?

A: Yes, I eat a healthy 75-80% of the time but I make sure I account for my guiltily pleasures here and there.

Meal 1: Oatmeal & egg whites

Meal 2:  Protein shake

Meal 3:  Chicken, quinoa, mixed veggies

Meal 4:  Ground turkey, broccoli salad

Meal 5:  Flavored Rice cakes & shake or Quest Bar

Meal 6:  Turkey burger, rice, asparagus or green beans

My meals are different every day. I make sure I get 3 balanced meals in a day, then fill the rest of my set macronutrients with whatever snacks I feel like eating. This way I don’t get bored with my food and can maintain a flexible diet.

Q: What is your favorite cheat meal? How do you control yourself from going overboard when you decide to treat yourself?

A: I love treating myself to sushi. I do not restrict my diet for long periods of times where I get to a point of having no control when I eat. I cycle my carbs and will treat myself on a higher carb days where I can still eat within my set macronutrients. I arrange my higher carb days on days that I trained legs, as those are the days I burn the highest amount of calories.

Q: What’s your social media/contact information?

A: FB page- Samantha Green
