#Fitspire of the Week: Chelsea Hudspeth, Personal Trainer and Exercise Science Student, says, “It’s all about being REAL!”

What gives somimage(2)eone the right to consider themselves a successful fitness model or personality in the industry? Is it the amount of covers one can land because of their physique?  Could it be how many sponsors they are able to grab to help support them? Or is it the amount of money one can make between different modeling/ fitness gigs? 

Everyone will tell you something different, but if there is one thing that is hard to disagree with, it’s the ability to promote and market yourself to others.  Social media has begun to play a huge role in self marketing as an athlete, competitor, fitness model or personality in the Industry. These days, you don't need a modeling agency to help promote you, or a company to take you on as a sponsored athlete in order for you to be seen in the industry.  

Someone who once could have been just an average fit person, now has the ability to transform themselves into a “Social Media Fitness Star!”  If you put in the time, the effort, and truly have a passion for fitness, you can change yourself from just a face with a body, to a bona fide personality – someone able to inspire and motivate others on their own fitness journey! 

Chelsea Hudspeth hails from the great state of Michigan! The 21-year-old Hudspeth has competed in 2013 NPC Simmons-Peckham Ultimate Showdown as a Michigan NPC Bikini athlete and is proof that if you put in the time, effort, hard work in the gym AND the kitchen, and use social media as a tool to self-promote, you can turn your average health/fit lifestyle into a network that reaches out to endless amounts of people who want to take the time out to follow your journey.

 

Q: When did you get started on your fitness career/journey? What made you want become more than just the average person living a healthy and fit lifestyle? 

A: I started dance when I was three years old, and ended up doing competitive dancing until I was 18 years old and graduated high school. Once I graduated high school I became very unhealthy, I would eat Taco Bell almost every day and would drink and party multiple times a week. 

My body was suffering, majorly. I gained almost 20 pounds and was completely miserable with how I looked. I started going to the gym with my younger brother, stopped drinking, and ate healthy. I saw results almost immediately. I completely fell in love with working out, and then decided to do my first show. I had passion and faith in myself and knew I wasn’t going to be your average gym-goer. I had a vision and a goal for myself.

 

Q: Being that you have a loyal social media following, what is some advice that you would offer someone wanting to increase their popularity in the Fitness industry? What tip can you give someone to help them build their following as well?

A: It’s all about being REAL. I show my entire life to my followers, not just the fitness aspect. I show the good, the bad and the ugly.  I feel like that is why a lot of my followers can relate to me and continue to follow me. You also have to be very active with your followers and post every day. Be positive, be real. 

 

Q: Do you consider this as your part/full time job or a hoimagebby?

A: Being this committed to fitness, cooking all your meals, and spending a ton of time in the gym is honestly like a full-time job. I also go to school full-time, getting my degree in Exercise Science. I have my own online personal training company with my boyfriend, and I work at Powerhouse Gym. Let’s just say I am a very busy girl! lol

 

Q: There are many people that motivate and are inspired by you. How does that make you feel knowing that there are people who take the time to see what you are doing day to day?

A: It is honestly an indescribable feeling... knowing that there are thousands of people out there that look to me for motivation is simply amazing. It makes me want to work that much harder each and every day. 

 

Q: How does it feel knowing that somewhere, you are actually helping someone by motivating them to achieve their personal goals, just by posting your personal life and achievements on social media?

A: It makes me feel very blessed... there really aren’t words to describe it. I absolutely love seeing people excited and motivated to change their lives, like I have changed mine. I get messages, comments and emails all the time saying how much I motivate them. It is so humbling and sometimes brings tears to my eyes. These types of people inspire me, just as much as I inspire them, believe it or not!

 

Q: Is there anyone who has motivated or inspired you to become the person you are today?

A: Everyone I have met throughout the fitness industry and all my friends I have met on Instagram have impacted me in one way or another. I would like to give a special thanks to my coach, Cassie, who helped me prep for my first two shows, my amazing boyfriend Nik for always motivating me and pushing me to do my best, and my loving, caring family. 

 

Q: How does your family feel about your lifestyle? What would you say to someone whose family does not support their lifestyle?

A: My family will always support me no matter what my decision in life is. They were there for me throughout my whole competition prep, dealt with my moodiness, my mom helped me prep food, and they always waited on me to get home from the gym. lol 

For those of you who do not have support, follow your dreams, never give up, and don’t let people tell you what is wrong and what is right. You need to do what makes you happy.

 

Q: Of all the social media outlets (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc.), what do you think is the most effective to use in order to market yourself in this industry?

A: I think that Instagram is the most effective use of marketing for myself. I can post progress pictures, videos of workouts, recipes and much more. It is also a lot easier to gain a big following. 

 

Q: What is your diet like? Do you eat clean all year round? 

A: I do not eat “competitive clean” year round. I LOVE food. It is all about balance in the off-season and bulking of course! I do not restrict myself. I go out to eat with family and friends, I go out and have a drink with friends, and I have pizza and ice cream nights with my boyfriend. I do keep track of my macros, and eat “clean” the majority of the day, though. When I am in prep for competition, I do the typical competition prep diet foods: chicken, steak, veggies, eggs, brown rice, quinoa, grapefruit, oatmeal, etc. 

 

Q: What is your favorite cheat meal? How do you control yourself from going overboard when you decide to treat yourself?

A: I am obsessed with pizza. I could eat it every day! This is usually my go-to cheat meal. I also love ice cream, cookies, and Thai food! Moderation is key! I tell all my clients: What’s better, the food you want for those ten seconds or the body you have wanted forever? 

Also, make image(1)your cheat meal the last meal of the day. Eat all your regular “clean” meals throughout the day, so you’re not as hungry when you get to your cheat meal. 

 

Q: Do you take any supplements? What do you think is one of the most important supplements someone should take who is training constantly?

A: I use whey isolate protein post-workout, dextrose post-workout, multivitamin, fish oil, creatine in the off season and BCAAs while I’m cutting. Supplements aren’t necessary to see results. Do not think you need to spend hundreds of dollars to see results. A well-balanced diet and lots of water is the most important.
