#FITspire of the Week: Jaquline Fischer: From the cover of Maxim Magazine to inspiring the world through fitness
What gives someone the right to consider themselves a successful fitness model or personality in the industry? Is it the amount of covers one can land because of their physique? Could it be how many sponsors they are able to grab to help support them? Or is it the amount of money one can make between different modeling/ fitness gigs?
Everyone will tell you something different, but if there is one thing that is hard to disagree with, it’s the ability to promote and market yourself to others. Social media has begun to play a huge role in self marketing as an athlete, competitor, fitness model or personality in the Industry. These days, you don't need a modeling agency to help promote you, or a company to take you on as a sponsored athlete in order for you to be seen in the industry.
Someone who once could have been just an average fit person, now has the ability to transform themselves into a “Social Media Fitness Star!” If you put in the time, the effort, and truly have a passion for fitness, you can change yourself from just a face with a body, to a bona fide personality – someone able to inspire and motivate others on their own fitness journey!
Jaquline Fischer aka J"aquie Ohh", age 24, and hailing from Deerfield Beach, Florida is proof that if you put in the time, effort, hard work in the gym AND the kitchen, and use social media as a tool to self-promote, you can turn your average health/fit lifestyle into a network that reaches out to endless amounts of people who want to take the time out to follow your journey.
Q: When did you get started on your fitness career/journey? What made you want become more than just the average person living a healthy and fit lifestyle?
A: I have been an internationally published model for over seven years, but never really put in the effort towards training. I worked out but I did not diet whatsoever and felt groggy, sluggish, and sick all of the time. I made the decision to take my life into my own hands; I was determined to get the body I wanted and to feel healthy.
I set a goal to do a NPC Bikini fitness competition in three months. So, for 12 weeks I hired a trainer and worked my butt off. I was so focused on training hard and eating clean. I ended up losing 21 pounds and placing 4th out 15 in my height class at the competition. I have never felt better physically or mentally in my whole life. The best part is that I have inspired people to do the same and live a healthy lifestyle. That alone made all the blood, sweat, and tears worth it.
Q: Being that you have a loyal social media following, what is some advice that you would offer someone wanting to increase their popularity in the Fitness industry? What tip can you give someone to help them build their following as well?
A: I already had a social media following from modeling and MAXIM, so I documented my entire experience to the public and I got such an amazing response from people. So many of my followers wrote me emails and messages telling me how I inspire them every day and have changed their lives.
My advice to anyone trying to build a following in the fitness world is to be creative, consistent, and honest with your posts. People respond well when you let your guard down and tell them the struggles and success you experience with your own journey because it helps them relate to you.
Q: Do you consider this as your part/full time job or a hobby?
A: It is a full-time job to live this lifestyle and constantly keeping up with the social media. Considering a lot of my work comes from social media, it's extremely important that I am on top of it 24/7. Not to mention keeping in shape! That's a full-time job in itself!
Q: How does it feel knowing that somewhere, you are actually helping someone by motivating them to achieve their personal goals, just by posting your personal life and achievements on social media?
A: You know, I started off as just a model because I admired all the beautiful models I saw and how others idolized them. That admiration wore off quickly when I discovered how egotistical and shallow people in the industry could be; not to mention the fact that some girls practically sell their souls to get a gig.
I made the transition into the world of fitness on accident, actually. I was unhappy physically and mentally so I rebuilt myself... literally. I've never worked so hard at something in my life. It was truly a humbling experience to break yourself down and build it back up again.
I never understood why some of these fitness models were so passionate and pretty much obsessed with a healthy lifestyle until I dove into it. I got such an amazing response from people; life stories, journeys, and others proclaiming I was their inspiration to change their lives.
Seriously, that's almost unbelievable. I cannot believe people actual cared enough to write me. So since then, I've been posting more about my fitness journey because inspiring others this way is a lot more rewarding then being just another face. Of course there are the haters and idiots out there who are just there to stalk or bring you down, but I don't let it bother me anymore because those aren't the kind of people I'm doing this for.
Q: Is there anyone who has motivated or inspired you to become the person you are today?
A: The earliest memory I have of being truly inspired to enter the fitness world was when this young lady I worked in a bar with, Brittany Tacy, began entering NPC bikini competitions. I watched her journey via social media from the beginning all the way until she became an IFBB Bikini Pro and Bikini Olympian.
She has made just tremendous achievements and has such a down to earth attitude about the industry, and I admire that. Coincidently, I was reunited with her at the Dayana Cadeau Classic after placing 4th at my very first competition. Life has a way of coming full circle sometimes, ha!
Q: How does your family feel about your lifestyle? What would you say to someone whose family does not support their lifestyle?
A: My mom was a weight lifter back in her day and still lives a very healthy lifestyle. My father's main concern is that I don't end up looking like a man, ha! And my sister is my biggest fan; she supports anything I do and even trained alongside me while I was competing. She's stronger than I am, and she's my little sister! It's difficult when your family does not support something you are passionate about. Just remember, you are doing it for YOU not for them. Eventually, your contagious happiness induced by your fitness achievements will rub off on them. When people bring you down, lift a weight!
Q: Of all the social media outlets (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc.), what do you think is the most effective to use in order to market yourself in this industry?
A: I have found Instagram to be the most effective. It is easier to gain a large following and you can illustrate your progress through pictures and videos.
Q: What is your diet like? Do you eat clean all year round?
A: I do not eat competition clean all year around. I am a big food lover and don't believe in depriving yourself. I do, however, eat healthy: all natural, gluten free, fruits, vegetables, chicken, fish, turkey. Basically, I eat real foods, nothing processed or made in a factory. Once you train your body to eat this way, you won't crave the crap. I still eat 5-6 small meals a day all week, then on Sunday I have one cheat meal. That's when I have my chocolate and glass of wine!
Q: What is your favorite cheat meal? How do you control yourself from going overboard when you decide to treat yourself?
A: I try to make my cheat meal, that way I can avoid the processed foods and harmful ingredients. I have found Instagram to be very helpful in coming up with different ways to make desserts out of oatmeal and such. I always save my cheat meal for dessert because I love chocolate!!! Sometimes when I'm feeling frisky, I'll splurge and get a big, juicy burger. I really concentrate on savoring these cheat meals and always set a limit to avoid going overboard. I have to hide things from myself sometimes, ha!
Q: Do you take any supplements? What do you think is one of the most important supplements someone should take who is training constantly?
A: I take a multi-vitamin, probiotic, glutamine, and glucosamine. The glutamine and glucosamine are probably the most important while training because they support your joints and muscles.
