If I am not mistaken, you don't recommend stimulants because they raise cortisol levels? Why is it recommended that one should use caffeine to aid in weight loss? Is using a stimulant counterproductive for maintaining lean mass while dieting?
DP: People like the feeling of stimulants; and caffeine does have a benefit for weight loss but the concomitant increases in cortisol (a catabolic steroid that breaks down muscle, suppresses the immune system, and causes increases in abdominal fat deposition), blood pressure, and cardiac risk profiles, don't make it worth it.
____
What are your thoughts on using Cissus and an anticatabolic? Here in the UK, there's a few of us who've used this and it seems to work very well
DP: Cissus is an herbal anti-inflammatory .....and as we all know, anti-inflammatories can inhibit muscle growth and repair.
_____
I remember you saying extra virgin olive oil is light sensitive, and that we should always get the tinted bottle.
So are the non-tinted ones already downgraded before even leaving the supermarket shelf (why do companies do this)
DP: Most extra virgin olive oil comes in a dark bottle........clear bottled olive oil is usually chemically altered for taste or cooking. Stay clear of those.
_____
Dave, can you post your dyazide protocol for the night prior and/or the day of a show?
DP: For a Saturday morning prejudging:
½ mg at 6pm on Friday (cut all water)
½ mg at 9pm on Friday
½ mg at 12am on Friday (Saturday)
½ mg at 6am on Saturday
½ mg After prejudging
_____
Dave - good to see you've got this new site. When one door closes another usually opens...
Anyways, I have a couple of questions pertaining to your diet. How much salad do you recommend w/ the lean protein meal? Do you recommend taking Omegalyze w/ each meal....in addition to your designated healthy fat...or does that replace the fat (PB / Mac. Nut oil. etc.).
Also, How about putting out a sample diet for a 175 lb guy?
DP: Have a small green salad with your lean protein meal if you want.
You should take 3 OMEGALYZE twice per day-that's 3000mg Fish oil and 2600mg Evening Primrose Oil. And a 175lb guy should start with the posted diet and tweak it after seeing the results.
____
Dave, I know you said Skippy All Natural is a poor choice in Natty PBs. However, it nets the exact same amount of carbs as its Schmuckers Peanuts/Salt only cousin. I know Skippy will have that extra G of High Glycemic carbs, but would it truly knock you out of Ketosis ?
DP: That sugar will indeed knock you out of ketosis.
_____
What's the best way to cook your eggs in your bulk diet? Anyone could probably answer this?
DP: I grease the pan with Macadamia Nut Oil and then I scramble the eggs right in the pan.
____
Hi dave, il be the first to buy a supscribtion to your mag when and if it gomes out, il be the first in sa!!
1q. can u post ur diet, i mean how u eat day in day out, and how many table spoons of pbutter, and how many of macnut oil do u take per day?
DP: I eat 6 meals per day (usually 2 shakes and 4 meals-1 or 2 egg meals, 1 chicken and 1 salmon meal)
2q. if i only take clen should i still tapper down at the end, y? i did a few cycles in the past, but never tapper down??
DP: It's wise to taper down everything at the end of a diet to prevent a rebound.
3q. my bodytype is an endomorph, easily fat one. how many sets do u recomend per exercise, i do 4 exercises for say shoulders 4 for back 4 for chest 4 for legs, and 3 for bis and 3 for tris etc, and i do 4 sets of every exsercise, how many sets would u say is perfect for building muscle?
DP: There's no perfect number. You need to experiment and find what is best for you. I like to do 2-3 intense sets per exercise for 3-4 exercises.
4q. il be doing ur keto diet soon, juz waiting for some clen, gona be only taking clen, while on the diet, i would juz like to know, the post workout shake of me have 60grams dextrose mix with quarter teaspoon salt, 10grams creatine, and 70grams whey, withnwater, now must i take out the dextrose?? if so what benifit is lost there, if i take it out??
DP: Just follow the diet I posted at the start of the thread; there is no post workout meal.
_____
What's your take on this smear on waxy maize now? Do you think all this research is true or is it another smear tactic by MD?
DP: I have addressed this in a separate post.
____
How is Toney looking? Are we going to see anymore pics before the Arnold?
DP: He is looking better everyday and still my favorite to win! No more previews!
_____
Also when taking propecia, what steroids arnt safe ive heard it binds to some hormones and actually speeds up hairloss, like deca tren and boldenone is there any truth in this?
DP: Propecia blocks conversion of testosterone into DHT .........regardless of what steroids you're taking.
____
Dave there's much discussion on some other threads regarding on Waxi Maize and how its "bogus" and that dextrose it soooo much better. Could you elaborate on this matter and give us some honest insight on the process and how both work
DP: I SAY WAXY MAIZE STARCH IS THE BEST CARBOHYDRATE REPLACEMENT SUPPLEMENT CURRENTLY ON THE MARKET!
Some people would say otherwise. In fact, these few people with their own personal agendas have attacked waxy maize starch (WMS) and called it inferior to other carb sources. They argue that WMS has a lower glycemic index than sugar and Vitargo (their stuff). While it might be a few points lower (but no one has tested it), the fact remains that it's still an extremely high glycemic carb and that's all that really matters. The insulin response from WMS is more than enough to drive nutrients into muscle cells at the highest rate necessary. What these critics ignore is the fact that WMS is an extremely high molecular weight carb-- higher than maltodextrin, sugar, or any other readily available carb. It's the high molecular weight (or size) of the WMS that enables it to rapidly pass through the stomach and digestive tract and draw amino acids, glucose, water, and other supplements with it through the digestive tract, into the bloodstream, and into the muscle cells where it then speeds the repair and synthesis of new muscle tissue.
WMS and Vitargo both create enough of an insulin response and both have a high enough molecular weight to clearly make it superior to maltodextrin or dextrose (sugar). This means that the final measure must be taste and mixability. In that department, WMS wins by a long shot. It mixes easily and goes down much smoother than Vitargo. It also costs a lot less than Vitargo! You decide!
____
I know you're not a fan of stimulants, but here's a question anyway:
When doing cardio, you recommend a heart rate of 120 BPM. If I was on a stimulant that upped my heart rate to 120 BPM, would that be practically the same as doing cardio at the same heart rate? I'm not trying to be lazy with my cardio, but I am curious. Thanks Dave
DP: It would elevate your heart rate but it wouldn't stimulate your muscles to burn calories.
____
I visited your old thread all the time and am so pumped that you have a new home!
I am starting to preseason train with my rugby team and want to drop some pounds to change positions. 2 of the training days are timed 5k runs (that I need to beat every time) and then one practise that is 2-3 hours long.
My questions is can I use your MMA diet (with virgin coconut oil pre-workout) to apply to a training regimine like this or will I need carbs? I imagine they (mma athletes) train as hard or harder
DP: Give it a try; I think it will work great for you.
_____
Would you have Jose Canseco on Heavy Muscle Radio in the recent light of the A-Rod admissions?
DP: He would be a great guest, but we already had him on our old show. I'm not sure what else he has to say.
_____
Do you know anything about Patrick Arnold's 1-AD? Is it still available?
DP: The real 1-AD was taken off the market in 2004.
____
Dave I'm wondering why don't the Pros have tons of acne on them like your average steriod user? Is it because they are not acne prone or high dosages of accutane? Thanks
DP: Most of the pictures you see are stage shots in which the bodybuilders are wearing dark tanning products. This usually hides bad skin and blemishes.
____
Is it true that it's be detrimental using propecia/finasteride on a deca cycle
DP: Absolutely not!
____
My wife is becoming a lifter and we're both going to do your keto diet. She's around 160lbs, how much would the diet change for her compared to a 130lb female? Also, I don't see a pre or post workout meal for a woman, does she just eat one of the meals after her lifting?
DP: The diet I posted for men and women does not have a pre or post workout meal; just eat one of your regular meals.
The diet will work great for her as it's listed.
____
My training partner has gout and I was wondering if he can still be on a high protein diet (keto diet) with his condition. Btw do you have any suggestion as to how he can better control his condition? He's only taking colchicine to control his uric acid levels
DP: High protein is not usually recommended for gout. Since gout is caused by an overaccumulation of URIC ACID in the blood which can then crystallize in the joints causing severe pain (usually in the extremities). This condition is really an "over acidity" problem and can be combated with alkalinizing supplements such as FRUIT AND VEGETABLE EXRACTS (especially black cherry extract), drinking plenty of water (especially alkalinized water-I'd suggest purchasing a water purifier that alkalinizes the water), and avoiding extremely acidifying foods such as asparagus, beans, and red meats.
_____
Anyways My question is, what do you recommend for a student that wants to lean it out? I mean I can't exactly do keto because my brain needs the glucose....so maybe carb cycling?
DP: Your brain uses ketones (not carbs) for fuel while on my ketogenic diet. Your brain only needs glucose because you think it does and won't commit to something new.
_____
Dave, I'm just about to start my next cycle and would like to get your opinion on it. Sustonon 250 EOD. 600mg deca a week. 30mg dbol ED. Anything I should add or drop? I also have Tren but I think that this "cocktail" should do the trick. Also can get my hands on anything really so if you think I should add something else I would appreciate it. Thanks man
DP: I'm not a fan of orals. You could drop the d-bol and still make great gains; overall, your cycle looks good. No need to add the tren or anything else.
_____
i just want to say congrats on the new site and i love isolyze, but i was curious i have been on your diet for two weeks now and i just had my cheat meal tonight. i didnt go overboard i believe it was just right, i was wondering though is it natural to be very tired right afterwards? cause as soon as i got home i passed out and woke up like 5 hours later is this normal? also how is this diet for people with high blood pressure, can this diet help regulate it?
DP: The diet has an indirect effect on blood sugar by improving your body composition and therefore overall health. Getting tired after the cheat meal is normal since you're spiking insulin and then causing a rebound drop in blood sugar.
____
Dave, Im having major trouble sleeping as of the last few weeks. On your diet, Does KETOSIS Affect sleep? And do you have a product that will help me with this?........SLEEP = RECOVERY Damnit.
DP: Try SOMALYZE - it's a great non-stimulant-based fat burner available and it has key ingredients to help you get to sleep, recover, and release GH.
_____
Dave I'm pretty new to weightlifting and sick of being an average skinny build so I'm looking to put on some mass. I'm 21 years old, 5'10'' and weigh in at roughly 168 pounds.
My questions here are: Would your mass building diet suit me as I'm only a beginner.
If so would I have to make many changes to your diet considering I'm a good bit under 200 pounds
DP: You don't need all that food. Reduce each meal slightly (experiment!).
____
I am trying to avoid all dairy products because I seem to have a moderate intolerance/food allergy - including whey. When running your diet, is there a vegan source of protein that can be used? Pea protein/ Hemp protein blends have a decent amount of protein in them, however they often have 4-6g of carbs. I can't find out anywhere what those carbs are made of - sugars or fibre. I don't like soy isolates bc they increase estrogen/lower thyroid production
DP: Whole foods are your best bet. Have you been diagnosed with an allergy or are you just lactose intolerant. If you are, you can use pure whey isolates that have no lactose in them and you should be fine!
____
Hello Dave, I am just wondering what you meant on Heavy Muscle radio, that Body Builders have horrible kidneys? You have mentioned as long as we take in adequate Calcium ,then high levels of protein are fine. Thank You.
DP: Kidney problems in pro bodybuilders often are the result of undiagnosed high blood pressure that, over the year, break down the kidneys and decrease functionality!
_____
what the f@ck does RX mean?
℞, the symbol for medical prescriptions
Rx-only drug or prescription drug in the United States/Canada
RX, "receive" in radio jargon
Rx, a symbol used to describe apparent retrograde motion of planets
Rx Bandits, formally the "Pharmaceutical Bandits", a rock band from Seal Beach, California.
Rx (band), an industrial band formed by Nivek Ogre and Martin Atkins
RX, an abbreviation for Rallycross
rx, an abbreviation for a chemical reaction
HEY DAVE which one is it?
DP: Rx MUSCLE: Your "Prescription" for Hardcore Muscle!"
____
In your offseason mass diet you said to add in the shake 40/50g Waxy Maize...what if i can't find any??Can i replace it with something else? And the same goes for the macadamia nut oil.
DP: Even if you can't find it in a local store, you can order these products online. If you absolutely have to substitute, use maltodextrin in place of WMS and extra virgin olive oil in place of mac nut oil. SPECIES makes a waxy maize starch called CARBOLYZE and we'll be selling 500mL bottles of Macadamia Nut Oil in about a week. They finally arrived!
____
Do pro's go straight from say a 16week bulk right onto a 16week cut without letting the body re-set its point of homeostasis?
after doing a small mass gain PH cycle how long should one wait before changing their diet with the goals of losing fat?
DP: You can start your fat loss diet as soon as you feel ready.
____
Hey Dave! Was thinking about trying your diet and I´m wondering how many carbs it would take to be kicked out of ketosis? Since there is trace-carbs in most things you eat. And low-carbohydrate milk products, is that a no-no considering lactos?
DP: Just follow my diet plan; under 50g carbs is an approximation but you don't want to push it.
_____
Dave, what is your opinion on phentermine for cutting?
DP: I hate appetite suppressant diet pills for weight loss. They're unhealthy (they've been linked to cardiac side effects) and they're also stimulants. That means they raise cortisol levels. Also, when you stop them, you'll have a tremendous rebound (fat gain)
____
Dave I know it's probably not ideal but is it alright to use a whey blend for your shakes when on the keto diet? The protein I'm currently using is ON 100% whey which contains 2g of carbs per scoop 1g being sugar. Just wondering if this will take me out of ketosis if i take the recommended 3 shakes a day?
DP: You'll probably be okay if you use a high quality whey blend like OPTIMUM; however, you're still not putting the highest quality whey into your body. As a bodybuilder, I always looked for the highest quality ingredients to give me any edge possible over the competition.
____
German Volume training while Keto dieting ..your thoughts
DP: My diet might not be the best time to try this out. The volume is a little too high for your restricted diet.
_____
I realize that w/o a magazine to advertise your mailing address it will be difficult to let inmates know about "Prison Bodies" but are you going to try to keep it going by posting their photos on the site?
DP: The problem is that the PRISON BODIES section was designed for inmates to see themselves in the magazine. People who are incarcerated have no access to the internet!
____
Recently, I stopped cooking my oatmeal. I measure out a 1/2 cup (like i normally would), take a spoon and my water bottle, and just put a spoonful in my mouth. Then I wash it all down with water.
My question is: does eating my oats this way (uncooked) make them less able to be used in my body/less bio-available? Are the macronutrients the same as they would be cooked?
DP: It's the same; however, it's a lot more abrasive on the way out! Trust me; I've tried it.
_____
I have tried many different whey proteins. Isolates, concentrates, blends and it seems that ALMOST every time I drink my shakes, it becomes almost impossible for me to swallow, and it is very painful, and some fluid from my stomach I would assume, slowly comes up through my throat until the pain goes away and I can swallow again, it usually takes about a minute.
Now the question is, do you think I should try a Gemma or Soy protein, or do you think I should consult my doctor?
DP: You need to consult your doctor and get tested for food allergies.
____
Dave, on the condition of Rhabdomyolysis. I am well aware of what it is and what causes it in most cases. However. I know of a close family member who recently had a full blown case of it and was admitted to the hospital overnight, had blood drawn and was then treated. Her arms got very swollen and stayed that way for 3 days. She is doing better now but several blood values (CK, Ca, 3-MH, Potassium, Myoglobin) were super high. This was the red flag for Rhabdo.
I spoke with her today and she says that she gets these local muscle swells quite often after resistance training, not even necessarily balls out training. She is and has been very active her whole life so a bit of weight training here and there should not be so hard on her body. But it's as if she has a hyperactive inflammatory response to any kind of tissue damage instigated by weight training. She eats better than most people so it's not a dietary deficiency I know of.
Typically I only here of Rhabdo cases in bootcamp recruits or severely overtrained athletes in two a days or such.
Are you familiar with CPT type I and or II dificiencies? I here that these 2 genetic conditions along with McCrdles Disease can be a none physical cause of Rhabdo?
DP: If her case is caused by a genetic defect in her body, it will be very hard to treat this condition. She's going to have to train with lower intensity and for shorter duration to ensure that she doesn't break down too much muscle tissue and cause her system to become toxified with myoglobin, potassium, ect......
