Many of you will already be familiar with the screen name and alias, Overlord. He originally began posting on various message boards, and was something of a leader at another message board (that I choose not to mention by name). After I started this column here at Rx, he soon began a “gossip column” of his own at this other board. In his column I was his early favorite target, but he quickly moved on from me to attack every other staff member at Rx Muscle. From there he moved on to many other players in the industry. Overlord is no longer with us though, and neither are his “gossip columns”.
Overlord had a very creative way of writing his column. He would mix fact with fiction in a very convincing way. Because of the Internet, facts were easily available about his potential targets. He would collect enough of this info to then begin to weave those facts with some total fabrications to create an interesting, sometimes very believable story. Obviously, publishing these stories on the Internet and presenting them as fact when you certainly know they aren’t true is liable to create some enemies. I know first hand that people get pretty pissed off when you publicly tell the truth about something they said or did, so I can imagine the reaction one might get if they were simply making shit up to create a good story!
Several days ago I was alerted to the fact that his past columns had been deleted, and so had his account at this other board. I decided to write him an email to see what was up. Here is what I got back:
"Long story. The short version is someone called me in the middle of the night (twice) a few nights back. They connected me with the OL account and then started rattling off a lot of private information about me - all of which was accurate. I couldn't ID the voice, but it was male. The individual threatened to turn my life upside down. My boss then started receiving anonymous emails that are designed to get me fired.
Whoever it is has started involving my family, so I asked for my account to be deleted. I enjoyed posting on AS, but it isn't worth this.
I'm looking into my own legal options now. What I was posting was always clearly labeled as 'gossip'. What this person is doing is actually breaking the fucking law. They will not get away with it.
On a more positive note...
Good job covering the Hartford show. Too early to call you "Boss 2"?
Hope you're well...
-- Dom"
After receiving this email from him, I wrote him back asking more specific questions, but it appears that immediately after sending me this final email, he closed his email account as well.
I didn’t hate the guy, but I can’t say I am sorry to see him disappear. I am a believer that you get back what you put out… And sadly, it looks like Overlord is now reaping what he sowed.
