Scott Siegel's Jailhouse Chronicles #6: Working Out in Federal Prison!

What the fuck is up, Rx Muscle?! I took a few months off from writing my monthly journal after being scotttransferred from Westchester County Dept. of Corrections to Fort Dix Federal Prison.  My head has been up my ass!  I was depressed and just didn't feel like myself.  I'm not being a pussy or feeling sorry for myself or crying about my situation but I had some family issues going on in the real world.  Of course, being locked up, I have no control over what's happening out in the real world.  It's just really hard when your family has shit going on and you can't there to help.  Believe me, time stands still within these walls but it doesn't stand still for my loved ones.  And it's hard to watch family go through "life" while I'm here unable to help with anything.  Truth be told, my sentence is harder on them than it is on me.  I can't help but kick myself in the ass everyday for putting them through this crap and I've apologized to them 1,000 times already.  But, I know that being sorry doesn't fix anything.  I will make this up to them one day but for now I can only say to my family and my loved ones, I love you and thank you for supporting a fuck-up like me.  I can only move forward from this point in time.

I feel better now and I'm training hard (305 lbs. and growing)!  I have access to real weights in here; however,  I want you guys to see these last illustrations that were done while I was still in county jail because they're still an important part to my routine.  Because there are no weights in the county jail,  the inmates came up with all kinds of crazy ways to get a pump!  The orange scrubs that we had to wear had an elastic band around the waist of the pants that the jail was throwing out.  I'm sure all of you out there own a pair of sweat pants with an elastic band in them.  If you take the band out and use it in a workout you really don't get any resistance from it.  But if you take 20 of those bands and put them on top of each other you'd be amazed at the resistance you'd get so that's what we did.  (We put 20-25 bands together - see illustrations #1 - #3).

If you can do 40-50 push-ups without these bands then after using them for a few weeks your rep count would climb to 90-100 a set!

For shoulders I would stand on one end of the band and grab the other end with my hand.  In this position its easy to do front and side lateral raises.  I couldn't believe the pump I would get in my shoulders.

For biceps I'd sit down with my foot on one end of the band and wrap the other end in my hand and curl.  I would rep out to failure.  Theses are just some examples of the workouts we did and it sounds like a lot of Jane Fonda shit but no bullshit;  it works.  I love lifting heavy.  If someone in the real world said to me, "Try these bands you'll love em" - I'd laugh my ass off. Too, but I'm telling you now that when I come home I'll be incorporating band training into my daily workouts.  You get a great pump from them and they're easy on your joints!

I have to give a shout out this month to Chris from the Auto Exchange in Harvey, Il.  Chris, in response to your question, I do abs every other day in here.  I don't kill them.  I just work them enough to keep them tight.  My abs are no different than anyone else.  We all have abdominal muscles.  They may be different in shape and size, but we all have the same number of muscles in our bodies.  The key is diet.  If you get lean you'll bring out that washboard.  Get the fat out of your gut and you'll see your abs!  I don't care if you work your abs everyday, 3x a day. If you don't get the fat off you'll never see them.

To everyone that has written to me I apologize for not getting back to you yet.  I'm just starting to catch up.  I should be able to answer everyone in the next few weeks.
