Sophie Guidolin is a Australia bikini competitor who has a strong following through Facebook (60,165 “likes”) and Twitter (4810 followers) which she is very active through. Many may wonder “why is Sophie so popular?” In part it may be because she’s a mother of 2 children which she has to balance with her own online business as well as getting in shape and being one of Australia’s top Bikini competitors.
Read on below to find out about Sophie’s quick rise in popularity not only in this industry, but also in the mainstream community.
Q: Sophie you've built such a huge following through social media, what’s been the key to your success in getting your name out there?
Sophie Guidolin: I have been overwhelmed by the online social media interest in my journey, I post everything from my training to my meals, progress photos, motivation, recipes and daily struggles faced with having 2 young sons, a full time job and trying to launch my own company too. Balance is the key as if you don’t enjoy what you are doing, then why do it? I’m a pretty positive person and I try and inspire and help others where ever I can!
Q: From the outside looking in it appears you run a successful online business. Is the reason for operating online? Is it purely because of your lifestyle with your children?
Sophie Guidolin: Well I only started working full time on my company online last month, before that I went from being the director of a modelling agency where I was working 70+ hours a week. It was hard to find time to spend with my boys, train and enjoy my life. I knew something had to give, but I needed to work to afford to live! I worked hard to get where I am and I am at a point where I have been fortunate enough to get sponsored along the way to help make my dreams a reality. Working online enables me to work whilst spending time with my boys, I am still finding I am up until 2-3am most nights though trying to get my label off the ground to be able to support my family. I know the hard work I put in now will benefit me us in the future.
Q: You competed in the Bikini Pro Qualifier at FitX 2013 and fellow Muscle Worx athlete Nina Silic took out top honours there. Is going for your pro card still a goal for you?
Sophie Guidolin: I am still unsure of what my next steps (comp wise) will be. Having an IFBB pro card would be an absolute honour to me. However I will have to see what my sons school terms are etc as he just started prep this term! My children will always come first and being a single mum it can be a bit of a juggle!
Q: You had a quick rise in popularity within the industry, before competing did you have some sort of a following then?
Sophie Guidolin: I only started my page after I had a huge amount of requests (6000+) on my personal page after my first show. It was really hard as I wanted to connect and help everyone, however I am pretty open about my life online. With young children and living alone it wasn’t a smart option to accept random requests so I started a page and it thankfully took off!
Q: Who has been your inspiration?
Sophie Guidolin: I get asked this question a lot and recently wrote a blog about it. I never look for inspiration outside of myself, I look at other women and think “man, I love her persona or vibe or delts” But I don’t aspire to be like anyone else, I aim to better myself and be the best that I can personally be. No two people are the same and no one can know your life or yourself like you. In saying that, my mum is the greatest person in my life. She raised my brothers and I in a clean lifestyle, teaching us the benefits of good nutrition etc- it set me up for life.
Q: What advice can you give to other mums out there that think getting in shape after having a baby too hard or impossible?
Sophie Guidolin: Nothing is impossible, it is a matter of how badly you want it. I believe that anything you want in life you can have on one condition- you have to want it as bad as you want to breathe!
