You hear it a lot in bodybuilding and fitness industry, "I'm hardcore.” So what makes someone hardcore? The answer will of course vary depending on who you talk to. Is it working out three hours a day? Maybe it’s doing two hours of fasted cardio a day. Or is it going no-carb, no-fat, and drastically cutting your calories? Is it giving up your entire social life, family, and any hobbies? Maybe it’s spending every last dollar you have on supplements and competing. Is it the combination of all the above things? I mean that all sounds "hardcore," right?
It's amazing all the things people will do in the bodybuilding and fitness industry to try to be the best. We have the mentality of more is better. If some cardio is good then more cardio is better. If low carbs are good then no carbs are better and while we're at it take all the fat out, too.
Going from one extreme to the other doesn't make anyone "hardcore," it just makes them ignorant. The mentality of more is better is not always true and doesn't define anyone as "hardcore". I'm a big believer of working smarter, not harder. But being smarter doesn't make you hardcore either.
So what makes you "hardcore"? If it's not doing endless amounts of cardio on top of your 2-hour workout, while cutting out all your carbs and fat, while giving up your social life, hobbies, money, and family, then what is it?
Here is what I consider being "hardcore". Being a single father or mother and raising your kids, while working a full-time job or two, and providing for your family. Fighting for our country and putting your life on the line every day to keep us free.
Hardcore is running into a burning building to save someone's life or chasing a criminal and being shot at. So the obvious question is, am I "hardcore"?
I'm a husband and father running two businesses while being a stay-at-home dad. I religiously make it to the gym 4-5 days a week while maintaining a healthy lifestyle. I play flag football every week. I make sure my family never goes hungry and that there's a roof over our head without any handouts from the government. That's pretty "hardcore," right? Nope. That's just called being an American. Hit me up on Facebook.
