Now that we are a good ways into the New Year, I hope everyone is still going strong with their resolutions and sticking to their plans. As many people tend to fall off as the months progress, I’d like to share a few ways you can stay committed and or get started to getting that body you have always wanted.
I hate using the word “diet” because those never last and people tend to think they are boring. To be successful with anything you must have a plan, so I like using the terms “weight loss plan” or “lifestyle change” when talking about getting into shape. Here are some tips to help you stick to your plan and new lifestyle:
1. Look at it as a lifestyle change: Getting into shape and living healthy has to do with an all around change. There are many different types of fad diets out here that will promise you this, promise you that. They may even work for a little while; but, once you fall off of the wagon you tend to gain all the weight back plus more. On the contrary, when you incorporate small lifestyle changes into your daily life you will find it much easier to stick to. Examples of these lifestyle changes are: One gallon of water per day, No carbs after 7PM, 20 minute walk each morning, etc.
2. Gradually work your way into it: Just like anything else that is bad, eating unhealthy can become an addiction. Let’s look at someone who has been a smoking for most their lives and decides to quit. Normally, the first instinct is to stop cold turkey, when in many cases that is the worst thing to do. Typically your body gets used to that addiction and needs to be slowly weaned off of the addiction. If you try to do it all at once, there is a good chance you will wind up falling off the wagon. This is because your body constantly feels like it needs that which has been cut out completely all at once. As far as to a weight loss plan gradually start cutting back on your nights out eating, the amount of carbs you take in, the candy you eat and etc and it will allow you to still continue to eat those thing just in smaller quantities. Eventually you will be able to stop eating these “bad” foods once you break the body’s addiction.
3. Prepare your meals in advance: Between the hustle and bustle of today’s society with school, work, children and everything else, it can be very difficult to set aside time daily prepare your meals. This can be adjusted for if you pick out one day during the week and dedicate a couple hours for WEEKLY food prep. I typically like to use Sundays. Following this method makes it a lot easier to pick up or pack a Tupperware and avoid eating something un-healthy.
4. Make it fun: It is this huge misconception that eating healthy is boring. There are many recipes out that can help you spice up any meal. Experiment with different things until you find recipes you like. You can find a ton of great recipes here on www.MensPhysique.com in THE KITCHEN section of the ARTICLES.
I hope this helps as it just outlines a few way for you to start and maintain living a healthier life style in 2013.
