Eating Healthy On A Budget

TimeEating healthy (1) and time again that conversation seems to come up about how “eating healthy” cost so much and that’s why I can’t afford to “diet” or eat clean.  Eating healthy does not have to break the bank if you follow a few simple rules.  Yes that 99 cent burger or 4.99 value meal may sound intriguing but truth be told if done right, if you break it down dollar per dollar you could spend the exact or even less amount of money eating healthy as opposed to going out or eating fast food.  Try a couple of these ideas and see for yourself.

Plan in advance- Have an idea of what your meal plan will consist of for the week.  If you do this it will allow you to create a budget for yourself and make purchases accordingly.  Many times people go to the grocery store without a grocery list and find out at checkout they have bought things that they really didn’t need and have spent money they didn’t want to.  Creating an exact list of what you are going need will keep you focused and within your budge.

Buy in bulk-  Many stores offer a significant discount if you buy in bulk.  Everyday items such as eggs, chicken, ground beef, fish and water are all items that can be bought in bulk or family size and used for multiple meals.  Also look to purchase the store brands of the particular foods you are looking for as they tend to be cheaper than and just as nutritional as its counter parts.

Be creative- You may be amazed by how many different ideas you can come up with one simple item and a couple of items that compliment it.  Go online and search different recipes and then put your own twist on it.  Let’s take chicken for an example, you can eat it plain by itself or chop it up and throw it in a salad.  Tuna fish is another good example.  You can eat it from the can, make it into a salad or a sandwich as well.  Try different things until you come up with options that work for you.

Shop around- Super markets just like any other business are in competition to gain more customers, so they often run sale to do so.  Pick up the Sunday paper and look at the circulars for the weeks best deals.  Couponing is a great way to save money when it comes to grocery shopping.

In conclusion eating healthy doesn’t have to break the bank if you follow some of these tips.  There is a diet friendly budget out there for everyone who is willing to take the proper steps to find and do it.
