Regular or Diet Soda

The debate between which is worse, soda and diet soda has been ongoing for some time. I’m going to break down the differences to answer the question once and for all. Let’s start with the non diet soda.

Regular Soda

- Increases in harmful hidden fats, including liver fat and skeletal fat.

-Increases in cholesterol. 11% increase vs. diet soda group.

-Some contain a toxic flame retardant. It can cause bromide poisoning symptoms like skin lesions, memory loss, and nerve disorders.

-Many contain high fructose corn syrup, which is mainly derived from genetically engineered corn. Recent findings suggest that genetically engineered crops are linked to digestive tract damage, accelerated aging, and infertility.

-Causes tooth decay and dental erosion.

-Increased risk of chronic kidney disease.

-Heartburn

-Insulin resistance

-Liver Cirrhosis

Diet Soda

-Brain Cell Damage

-Hyperactivity

-Higher Risk of Diabetes

-Higher Risk of Obesity

-Cell Damage. Sodium benzoate found in certain drinks has ability to switch off vital parts of DNA

-Aspartame breaks down into phenylalanine, aspartic acid, and methanol that further converts to formaldehyde and formic acid, which are known carcinogens. There are over 92 different health side effects associated with aspartame consumption.

Non Diet Soda and Diet Soda

-Dehydration. Caffeine is a diuretic and causes you to become more dehydrated

-Phosphoric acid. Phosphoric acid is calcium-leaching. Loss of calcium can cause osteoporosis.  It also can tilt your PH balance to an unhealthy level.

-Highly corrosive to the GI tract. Possibly causes multiple digestive disorders.

The conclusion:  There is no good choice between the two of them. Both are terrible for you and have a long list of harmful side effects. There is still much research to be done on both. The clear choice is to pick water. Not only are there no harmful side effects and our entire body functions on it. We work so hard in the gym and to get proper nutrition, why put either diet or regular soda into our bodies?
