Leveraging Physique Shows to Market Yourself Successfully

Competing in physique shows are not only aPOWERTEC POSTERS-07 great opportunity to be front and center of health and fitness companies, publications, and photographers, it's an opportunity to ride the show buzz to benefit your business or fitness modeling career.  You're probably up to your eyeballs in contest prep and juggling your life already but if you are interested In building an exciting hobby in the fitness modeling world, read on.


Start doing photoshoots leading up to your show. TIP:  The fitness industry is small and everyone pretty much knows or heard of the major players.  To shoot with a Pro means that the work produced will be "print-ready" since their style is in line with what the industry is looking for.  Also, pro photographers you work with will likely post the best photo of you from the shoot on their social network, which will have in its' audience the rest of the fitness industry mover and shakers… get it? ;)


DSC_0581-2-webTake your best headshot and body shots to make business and comp cards, website.  When you are at an event to compete, make sure to be friendly and exchange information with everyone that you meet.   Go to each booth, talk to the people there and share information.  If you have the opportunity, do the same with the professional photographers that you see there.


Be sure to follow up with everyone that you came into contact with after the show as well.  Good common business manners and practice.


Maintain an active social network and a positive persona. Fitness models/professionals are known for their positivity, motivating words and appearance.  So, keep the status updates positive, clean and humble.  It seems like a simple thing to do but so much attention will often catch a person off guard and may end up spend too much time reveling rather than continuing to move forward.
