Meet MP Competitor Matt Mankoff

Meet My Boxing Picthe Man in The Shorts Matt Mankoff.  Matt is a Men’s Physique competitor via soccer, boxing, mixed martial arts, and paintball! Congrats on a great showing!  What made you decide to compete in the Men’s Physique Division?

I grew up playing competitive club soccer and always had a hard time putting on some size. When they opened up the Men’s Physique Division it opened the doors of bodybuilding to guys like me who were in shape but did not have the genetics to compete against the bigger guys in bodybuilding.

Can you tell us a little about the show in which you most recently competed?

Recently I competed in the Ronnie Coleman Classic.

How did you feel after pre-judging?

This last showing was not the strongest I have placed and I felt a bit of disappointment only due to coming down with a cold the night before. The competition was on point and some of the best physiques stepped on the stage that day. To this date I felt I brought one of the best packages I could to the stage as far as my conditioning and training but I couldn’t shake the cold that had consumed my body. I was just happy to finish and watch most of my friends from Camp Hero take home some hardware.

How did you feel about the final results of the show?

I feel like there is always room to improve in some form or fashion so regardless of placing I was very thankful to get the chance to share the stage with some of the best competitors from around the world. I am extremely blessed to be healthy enough and able to compete so just getting up there is enough for me.

What are your thoughts on the Men's Physique Division and what it may be able to do for your career?

The division has already afforded me numerous opportunities to work with some great photographers along with a couple of fantastic websites that help promote what we do in the Men’s Physique Division. It has also allowed me to workout with countless dedicated athletes that inspire me daily to continue growing and learning in this business.

Typical daily eating plan: My meal plan usually changes daily but here is a sample diet of what it usually looks like:

Meal one: 5 egg whites, 4oz chicken, 1 cup spinach, 1/2 tbsp coconut oil (cook with it)

Meal two: 10oz yam, 6oz Turkey

Meal three: 6oz chicken, 10 oz potato.

Meal four: 8oz tilapia, 10oz yam

Meal five: (Post training) 6oz lean beef, 10oz rice

Meal six: 5oz muscle egg whites, 4oz chicken, 1 cup spinach

Intra workout: 100g Karbolyn

Favorite supplement:Front Picture I dig AEN’s Intrabolic for my workouts and EFX Karbolyn during my lifts.

What peaked your interest in training?

To see how far I could push the limits of my genetics. I am highly competitive so when I started training I soaked up information like a sponge and did whatever it took to keep growing and changing. I grew up as the small guy so I was determined to make sure that was never the case again and along the road I began to love this lifestyle. It was no longer a competition but a way of life now.

Who influences/influenced your training?

I am continually influenced daily by the many friends I have made competing and all the athletes of Camp Hero Fitness. They show the true definition of a team with the support that each athlete at Camp Hero gives to each other. Everyone up there is a phenomenal athlete which helps motivate me daily to step up my game and to keep progressing.

Sports: Boxing is my main thing now but used to play club soccer for well over 13 years with a trip on a national team to England when I was 9 to compete for a few months.

Special interests: I like mixed martial arts and train as often as I can or when my lifting permits.

Physique, fitness, bodybuilding competition history:

Europa Super Show 2011- 9th place

Heart of Texas 2011- 9th Place

Ronnie Coleman Classic- 9th place

Ronnie Coleman Classic- 15th place

Next planned competition: October 12th NPC Texas Bodybuilding Houston Pro Show

What keeps you on track towards reaching your goals?

The constant support system I have with my family and friends is a huge one. Watching many of them turn pro and compete all over the United States helps keep my dream of one day getting my pro card kicked into high gear.

Interesting fact or something you would like our readers to know about you: I used to play competitive paintball for about 4 years and traveled a lot across the US and wound up competing at the age of 13 in the World Cup of Paintball in Florida.
