Joining us today is MP Competitor Emmanuel Banks. Congrats on a great showing! What made you decide to compete in the Men’s Physique Division?
It's a good look. I did well as a bodybuilder, though naturally I'm a small guy. So competing as a middle weight was only going to go so far.
Can you tell us a little about the show in which you just competed?
The IFBB North American Championships. It was my first time competing in a pro qualifier as a men's physique competitor. It was very well organized. Lots of great physiques from bodybuilding to bikini.
How did you feel after pre-judging?
I felt great after the pre-judging. There were 6 competitors in the first call-out, I was 1 of the 2 guys in dead center. I thought I'd go home with a trophy, and crossed my fingers for 1st place. I figured I had 4-7 hours to kill, so I headed to a friend’s house nearby. On the way back we ran into bad weather and even worse traffic. I was relaxed, thinking I'd only be 15-20 minutes late.
How did you feel about the final results of the show?
I arrived at 5:28, to find Dave Pulumbo interviewing the Physique Overall champ. I couldn't believe it. I had just missed my division. All my work. What next? I was directed to the guys that had the placing info. I was told I had placed 2nd to the overall champ. And that I could find the official score cards online. http://npcnewsonline.com/2012-ifbb-north-americans-mens-physique-official-score-sheets/28139/class-b-4/ The results of the show were great. The judging panel scored me in second place.
What are your thoughts on the Men's Physique Division and what it may be able to do for your career?
Men's Physique is great for the main stream every day person. More people comment about my physique, saying I have a balanced attainable physique. Not too big, not too small; it's just right... It's already helped my personal training business; now I'm looking into modeling.
