Meet Cecil Hill: Overall MP Winner at The Coastal USA Bodybuilding Championships

We are here with Cecil Hill.  Congrats on a great showing!  What made you decide to compete in the Men’s Physique Division?

Thanks! It was a long road! 311304 265724090124155 184882598208305 1010783 6923150 n

I have always been an athlete and that competitive itch to compete never really leaves you. I love the sport of bodybuilding but I am happy about the addition of the Men’s Physique Division because I never really had a desire to be a mass monster in bodybuilding, which seems to be the direction the sport is headed to more and more. I have always liked the aesthetic portion of physique competition more, and that’s why men’s physique is so great. Guys who maintain great shape all year round have an outlet to showcase our physiques and compete.

Can you tell us a little about the Competition you just competed in?

It was the 2011 NPC Coastal USA Bodybuilding Championships. It was the last national qualifying show in my state of Georgia, and one of the biggest shows in the southeast. At the athletes meeting that morning I saw the largest class of men’s physique to hit the stage in the state. The division is growing like crazy. Being that this was my first show I was naturally nervous but my coach Jay Rowe told me to relax, smile, and just do what we practiced. To qualify for nationals I had to place top 5 out of 25 or so competitors in my class. That was the goal, but all day the only thing on my mind was the overall class trophy and overall title.

How did you feel after pre-judging?

I felt pretty good about making the first call out, because I was moved to the middle and was right in the mix of things for the most part. I stayed on track after pre-judging and didn’t carb up or anything. I didn’t want to take any chances, because the shows not over until you hopefully leave with hardware.

How did you feel about the final results of the show?

Man I tell you there is no better feeling than hearing your number called for first place in your class. The only thing that topped it was when I went out for the overall and my number was called for the title. I have never felt more gratitude for all the hours of training, cardio, and posing practice with my coach. It all just came together. Hard work does pay off…

What are your thoughts on the Men's Physique Division and what it may be able to do for your career?

I love the fact that the division is constantly evolving and it will be interesting the direction it goes to in the coming years. I also am grateful that guys that maintain a healthy physique all year round finally have an outlet to showcase all the hard work that is maintained all year, rather than periodically like some in the sport of bodybuilding. Believe It or not it’s harder staying contest ready all year round than having the age old on/off season.

What peaked your interest in training?

I have always been an athlete. I played football in high school which was the first time I ever touched a weight. As a matter a fact the first exercise I ever did/tried to do was a power clean. It wasn’t until I went to college that I began to actually learn how to lift with technique and purpose. After winning a national championship, and numerous playoff appearances I was satisfied with football. At this point I was bitten by the iron bug and never looked back since then. In terms of competing I started my prep April 1, 2011 of this year at 27% body fat and through hard work and a lot I mean a lot of cardio and dieting I took my physique into my first show and won overall. My 5 month transformation can be viewed on here in one of the photos.

Who influences/influenced your training?

When first getting into this industry I got taken advantage of numerous times. Being 20 years old at the time I didn’t know any better, and suffered for it. It took me two years and a boatload of disappointments and letdowns by individuals telling me to “trust them” until I found my trainer IFBB Pro Bodybuilder Jay Rowe or as my best friend and NPC bodybuilder Federico Gordon would say he found me. I thank god everyday that I get the opportunity to be surrounded by great people who have my best interest in mind. Therefore I am a proud member of RFS (Rowe Fitness Solutions). It is a family of people that are all likeminded individuals when it comes to training are asses off and being successful in not just fitness/bodybuilding but in life as well.

What keeps you on track towards reaching your goals?

I remember the feeling I got when I started seeing my body for the first time change for the better and it felt like such a high I never wanted to come down or for it to stop.  I also have the greatest friends/family a guy could ask for who keeps me motivated no matter what. My father is my hero and he has always told me “You can do anything you set your mind to, ANYTHING!” I also have the best friend/brother a guy could ask for, NPC Bodybuilder Federico (Rico) Gordon. We keep each other on track and motivated no matter what. We are both athletes under Team RFS which is ran by IFBB Professional Bodybuilder Jay Rowe the absolute best contest preparation coach in the fitness/bodybuilding industry.

Interesting fact or something you would like our readers to know about you:

I have NEVER been the guy that’s always had an awesome physique. I actually played offensive/defensive line all through high-school. I owe my physique to complete dedication and focus to my craft of molding my body to what I wish for it to be. I am half black/white/Indian/Caribbean/and French. I’m a sucker for a woman in top physical shape and who can cook.
