Bobby Ashhurst is the Overall Winner at the Orange County Muscle Classic 2011

Bobby Ashhurst took home the 1st Overall for Men's Physique at the Orange County Muscle Classic 2011. He is making waves in the fitness industry across the board.  Not only did he just win the OCMC, he was also recently brought on as a demo rep for Gaspari Nutrition. Here is a guy with a great sense of humor, great physique, and the knowledge to use it.  Bobby is showing everyone that you can have a great physique and be incredibly business savy.  Want to get to know Bobby better?  Read on!

What are your thoughts on the Men's Physique Division?3

I think it is great for the sport. They have created a category anyone can aspire to realistically compete in. Even a poor kid from Jersey can grow up to be a champ. (yes, I grew up in NJ; no, I do not watch Jersey Shore or do a fist pump) This category, much like bikini, has opened up the fitness industry to a much larger demographic so from a business perspective I think the move is a winner. From the perspective of someone who loves fitness &
all around good health, I think this new category will give people a goal to aspire to that will lead many down a longer, healthier and happier life overall.

Age: It’s a secret

Favorite type of training: Heavy weight, low rep, high intensity training
but due to no longer needing the additional muscle mass to compete in
Men’s Physique I am going to also include more plyometrics and sports
performance based training so maybe I can learn how to do that cool
parkour/free running stuff one day and jump from balcony to balcony in a
action movie one day. Hopefully I’ll get over my fear of heights at the same
time.

Favorite body part to train: I love training them all. Since childhood I
always heard them talk about symmetry for bodybuilding shows so I always
focused on having a balanced overall physique. So without a doubt I get
excited to train every body part!

Favorite exercise: Walking lunges. I have an ex who is a national level
bikini competitor whose trainer, Adela Garcia, makes them do a mile of
walking lunges. I figure I can’t let her out do me so now I finish my leg
workouts by doing about 1000 lunges.

Rep range: Depends on the type of training I’m doing. If the standard
4
weight training workout I typically shoot to fail on every working set
between 6-8 reps. If I do a tabata type training, then I just crank out as
many reps as my body will allow in the predetermined working set time.

Number of sets: Once again, it depends on the type of training I’m doing
that day but typically 2-3 working sets for 3-4 exercises per bodypart being
worked that day.

Typical workout duration: 60 minutes or less so my body doesn’t go
catabolic

Training split:

Day 1: Legs –AM; Cardio – PM

Day 2: Chest & Core – AM; Delts – PM

Day 3: Back – AM; Arms – PM

Day 4: Rest day but still wind up doing some core and some sort of cardio

Typical daily eating plan: Breakfast: Steel Cut Oats in unsweetened almond
milk and eggs; Lunch: Lean protein, complex carb and veggies; Dinner:
Lean protein and veggies; I also do pre and post workout drinks for both
workouts

Favorite supplement: Amino Acids, My pre & post workout drinks are
basically just water loaded with aminos

What peaked your interest in training? A girl I was dating at the time was
a fitness competitor and just kept asking me to compete. Although I was
in relatively good shape and always worked out anyway, she pretty bluntly
said I was fat but that was probably just lost in translation since she spoke
French and was just learning English. Either way, she had better abs than
me so figured I can’t really argue the point with her and should just step it
up.

Who influences/influenced your training? I typically just steal ideas from
friends I respect as trainers or competitors or sometimes just some random
person in a gym that I feel is in great shape and works out at the intensity
I feel is needed to affect change in ones physique. Some people who I
tend to ask for ideas typically are Joe Valdez & Jamo Nezzar (my trainers),
Sherrie Carnicle, Emily Carey, & Felicia Romero (all top level female
competitors and they’re hot. Lol)

Sports: Football & Basketball

Special interests:
I am obsessed with any TV show about ghosts. On Wednesday’s I watch

Ghost Hunters or Ghost Hunters International or Ghost Hunters Academy
and on Friday’s I like to watch Ghost Adventures. I’d love to stay in a
haunted hotel for a weekend so anyone wanting to join me let me know!

Physique, fitness, bodybuilding competition history: Fitness America
Hollywood 2007, Fitness Atlantic 2008, Fitness Universe 2008, Fitness
America Las Vegas 2008, Fitness America Las Vegas 2009, NPC GNC
Muscle Contest 2011, & NPC Orange County Muscle Classic 2011

Awards and/or accomplishments: The last show was my first every win and
took the overall as well as class.

Next planned competition: Jr USAs in Charleston, S. Carolina on May 21st
for a shot at being the 1st ever Men’s Physique Pro. If not then definitely
the USAs in Las Vegas on July 29-30.

What keeps you on track towards reaching your goals? I used to think
about people who used to say I can’t do something and use anger as a fuel
to drive my workouts. Now I think of all the people who believe I can do
anything and use their faith in me as a motivating factor to keep striving to
improve at not only fitness but all aspects of my life.

Interesting fact or something you would like our readers to know about you:
I own two, what would be considered girly dogs! I have a Maltese named
Jersey Boy and a Shih Tzu named Zona Boy. I know you’re thinking WTF
but I’m secure enough in my manhood to admit it.

Website and facebook:

www.myNutriFit.com is up but I need to work on it but this will be the
webstore for my retail shop, NutriFit of Scottsdale, as well as where I will
put a lot of the blogs I will start posting on the various sites in the near future.

I also have a couple Facebook pages. My original one has filled up so the
new one is www.facebook.com/bobby.ashhurst.2

And being the social networking addict I am, I also am on Twitter under
@bobby_ashhurst and @NutriFitBobby

Contact Information:
I’m very responsive typically, as long as you don’t send me some weird
requests like can you purchase my recently worn underwear and yes that
has been asked before. So if you contact me on Facebook or Twitter I try
to reply to every person personally.
