Name: David Truax
What are your thoughts on the Men's Physique Division? To the general public, modern top bodybuilders are a curiosity, not an ideal. Few people want to look like that, themselves. I respect people going after what makes them look and feel the way they want. Hopefully this new class will get some legs under it and make a class for those of us that care less about size and more about aesthetics and athleticism.
Age: 34
Hometown: Seattle
Current city: Los Angeles
Years training: Started strength training at 14, got serious in my early 20s, got fat and lazy as a traveling consultant and then became serious again for the last 5 years.
Education: Scene study at the Beverly Hills Playhouse; Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering
Occupation: Actor; retired from software and technology
Favorite type of training: High volume
Favorite body part to train: legs
Favorite exercise: squat
Rep range: 15
Number of sets: 20
Typical workout duration: 50-60 minutes strength training and a 30-60 minute run.
Training split: 5 day split, with one day rest: Legs / Chest / Back / Shoulders / Arms
Typical daily eating plan: I do what I call a micro-zigzag. I’m pretty meticulous in tracking food intake, so I’m able to keep the bulk and cut in a pretty tight range. I bulk until the calipers move past a set point, which varies from 10 to 15 days. Then I do a gentle 2-5 day cut until I hit my reset point on the calipers.
Favorite supplement: BSN Nitrix
What peaked your interest in training? As a kid, I thought the bodybuilders of the late ‘70s and early ‘80s looked really good, and I figured they must get the girl.
Who influences/influenced your training? As a kid growing up I admired the physiques of Arnold and Frank Zane.
Sports: Skiing, running, swimming, back packing, camping, golf, marksmanship.
