With us today is MP Competitor Chad Jackson. Congrats on a great showing! What made you decide to compete in the Men’s Physique Division?
I won a 12 week transformation contest on Bodybuilding.com in 2012 and I had this urge to keep going so looked for the next opportunity. I did not want to transform and then stop. So much dedication and hard work goes into a transformation contest and I wanted to not only keep going, but take my fitness and experience to the next level. I saw a local bodybuilding/physique contest in Houston (Branch Warren Classic) online 5 weeks before the contest and I told my wife, “This might be crazy, but I am going to do this.”
Can you tell us a little about the show in which you most recently competed?
I competed at the NPC Texas State Championships where I finished 3rd in the Class C Open Division. It was a big show and I was competing against some guys that were half my age, but I was okay with that. I really want to pave the way for others my age to set fitness goals and meet them, so being amongst younger men was okay because I was there and I am on this journey for more than just winning competitions. This show was one of the biggest shows in Texas so it was a great opportunity to meet new people and learn about their experience.
How did you feel after pre-judging?
I made first call out and was pretty excited about finishing top 5 in the open class where the guys were a lot younger than me. I was very confident after I left the stage.
How did you feel about the final results of the show?
After I reviewed the competition in my head, I agreed with the judges, but this was not my first response. I had thought I had done a lot better and knew I was in better shape than my first show. I was a little down that I did not place as well as I had wanted. I then got back in touch with my “why” and was thankful for the opportunity and for the result I did get. I reminded myself it’s about the journey, not about the outcome of the event.
What are your thoughts on the Men's Physique Division and what it may be able to do for your career?
I really like the Men’s Physique Division because guys like me who have been lifetime drug-free have a chance to compete. I also think it is going back to the aesthetics of bodybuilding decades ago that looked more natural. Really I want to have a platform to inspire people to get into shape or get back into shape. I have a corporate job with a wife and kids and a lot of time we just let life happen to us and we don’t make our health one of our top priorities. I want to show people it can be done drug-free with the right nutrition, workout plan and desire.

What peaked your interest in training?
To get back into shape and make health one of my top priorities again.
Who influences/influenced your training?
During my transformation in 2012 and preparation for my first contests it was Derek Charlebois. Lately it has been Doug Brignole. Doug has been in the bodybuilding game a long time and I really like some of his theories even though they may seem backwards to some people.
Sports: Played division 1 soccer in college and kicked for the football team my 5th year in college.
Special interests: Love, watch, and coach soccer. I also like to help people in their own transformations.

October 2013 – NPC Texas State Championships, 3rd Place Class C Open Physique Division

What keeps you on track towards reaching your goals?
I have been an athlete all my life and this gives me that outlet to use that discipline I had training hours off and on the soccer field. I also really don’t want to let people down especially the people who have been inspired by my own transformation and are getting in shape because of what I have done.
