Fitness Competitor Darrian Tissenbaum
This is the first in a series of backstage articles I’ll be doing for the 2012 NPC Jr. Nationals. When I see someone I think you all might not know, and would like to, I run backstage and interview them. I will also snap a picture or two.
Darrian Tissenbaum, 21, came out in a Jack Sparrow outfit and did something that rarely happens to me at a show… She surprised me. Some of the moves she integrated into her routine were unique and dynamic. Her stage presence was that of a professional performer.
Darrian told me that she had been doing gymnastic her whole life, and went to Central Michigan on a full scholarship, but several ankle surgeries ended her gymnastics career. Darrian recently won the fitness portion of the NPC Pittsburgh, a show that her month had competed in years ago.
If she wins a pro card, she will make her debut at the new IFBB Sarasota Pro on September 5th. That might sound like overconfidence, but Darrian tells me, with a smile, that she comes from such a competitive family that if doesn’t win “they might not let me back in the door!”
