Portable Sensor Able to Detect W130724200213hen The Body Is Burning Fat

How much stress would be relieved during contest prep if you were able to determine exactly when your body is, and is not, burning fat? A new device is in the process of being developed that will have the ability to tell you immediately when your body is burning fat. During the oxidation of bodyfat a substance known as Acetone is produced that can be found in the blood. Acetone is also released or exhaled by the tiny sacs in our lungs known as alveoli. The new device will be able to measure small concentrations of Acetone when users blow into a device that will calculate the results and send data to their smart-phone within ten seconds. At this time there is no indication of when the device will be made available for purchase.

Resveratrol Not As Beneficial As Previously Thoughtred grapes-1152x864

Resveratrol, an antioxidant naturally found in red grapes, has gained popularity over the last few years for its potent antioxidant properties and has even been thought to have anti-aging benefits for its ability to improve cardiac health. Traditionally the research on resveratrol has been conducted on animal models but, recently the University of Copenhagen conducted a study that tested resveratrol’s effects on humans. The results of the study came as a shock. Over the course of eight weeks 27 men engaged in a high intensity exercise program, half of which received 250mg daily of resveratrol, while the other half received a placebo. Researchers found that supplementing with resveratrol actually mitigated the positive effects of exercise that are typically seen in the body such as; maximal oxygen uptake, plasma lipid concentrations, and blood pressure as well.

Drinking Coffee Tied arabica catura coffee beanTo Lower Risk Of Suicide

A new study has given coffee drinkers another reason to rejoice. The Harvard School of Public Health recently released a study that concluded daily consumption of several cups of coffee appears to reduce the risk of suicide in men and women by nearly 50%. The study assessed the associations between those who drink caffeinated coffee, decaffeinated coffee, and those who drink little to no coffee, and their risk of suicide. Researchers attribute the results to the neuro-protective effects of caffeine because of its ability to boost certain neurotransmitters such as dopamine, serotonin, and noradrenaline as well.

Link Between Diet and Acne

New research continues to highlight the deleterio090727102024-largeus effects of high glycemic diets on our health. The latest research, which was conducted by The University of Hull in Yorkshire, England, has found an inverse relationship between high glycemic diets and acne. Findings published in the journal Dermatological Nursing suggest that consuming high glycemic diets will worsen the embarrassing skin condition. Researchers suggest eating a healthy diet full of low glycemic foods will have a protective effect on health and reduce the risk of acquiring acne or other skin conditions. Researchers hope to begin studies later in the year to determine the impact of individual foods on acne.

Lipitor Linked To Increased Risk Of Diabetes

A shocking studihYguqHl8oBUy released in the journal of The American Heart Association has concluded that patients taking Lipitor are 9% more likely to develop diabetes. The study involved as many as 250,000 people taking Lipitor, and comes on the heels of a 2012 study conducted by Duke University that showed post-menopausal women taking Lipitor had nearly a 50% greater risk of acquiring diabetes. Statin drugs such as Lipitor are the most widely prescribed medications in the country, yet heart disease remains the number one cause of death in America. Perhaps studies like these will cause doctors to reevaluate their symptomatic treatment of heart disease and we’ll begin to see a shift toward preventative medicine, a much more cost effective means of treatment.
