QUESTION: At what age did you first realize you were athletically gifted and what sports were you first exposed to?
KW: 6th grade I started running Track and not until I was a freshmen in high school did I start football.
QUESTION: When you played professional football in the NFL did you weight train? Did you realize you had potential for bodybuilding back then?
KW: You ask if I weight trained....YES, was it like bodybuilding weight training.....NO! I had no thought of ever being a body builder at the time.
QUESTION: What were your greatest strengths on the gridiron (football field)?
KW: Being fearless, having such hard work ethics, work to make any weakness a strength, and never giving up.
QUESTION: I understand you ran Track at an Olympic level. What were your best events and times? What was the most prestigious meet you competed at?
KW: 100 Meters at 9.98
The most prestigious meet would have to be the Olympic Trials.
QUESTION: What made you leave the NFL and transition to bodybuilding? Who first convinced you to do your first bodybuilding competition?
KW: When NFL starting feeling like a J O B and it lost the passion and heart. Erik Munson introduced me to bodybuilding in 2002, at a local show; “Iron Man.” I had no idea what I was doing, diet, training, or posing and took 2nd. I did not compete until 2005 again and starting to take it more serious and learn as much as I could about the sport.
QUESTION: What was it like going from being a professional football player that commanded lots of respect to a beginner level bodybuilder?
KW: Very humbling. They’re two way different sports. Two different philosophies, two different sports, and 2 different ways of training.
QUESTION: What was your breakout bodybuilding show? What about it convinced you that you could eventually make a career out of the sport?
KW: 3rd at NPC Jr Nationals in 2005. Placing 3rd and not knowing anything about this sport I felt I had lots of room for growth. At that moment I knew I could and would push myself to any limit needed to reach the pro level.
QUESTION: What was your most proud bodybuilding moment?
KW: Winning “Mr. Minnesota/Mr. Midwest” in 2006 in Bloomington, MN.
QUESTION: What was your most disheartening loss?
KW: The last (6) runner ups and the last (6) pro qualifiers.
QUESTION: What keeps you motivated to stay hungry in the gym?
KW: My God! I give him all the glory and I am honored for the blessings he has given me through all my training. I remind myself of Philliapians 4:13.....”I can do all things through Him who strengthens me.”
