Johnny wins the North American Strongman Hartford Europa event in style with a come from behind win supported by his more than excited wife.
Johnny will represent the U.S. in China in a few short weeks at several strength events and deomonstrations. Congrats Johnny!
After a huge weekend with more than 35 competitors, the North American Strongman Association crowned it's newest Pro Card holder in the 6' 8" 410lb Robert Oberst. Having only competed in 5 shows, all within the past year, Robert was in 2nd place of 3 men who were only seperated by 2 points total. The suicide medley proved deadly to everyone but Robert, who was the only competitor to finish the entire event.

When SallyAnne asked me if we wanted to cover one of the biggest Highland Games in the country right in our backyard of Arlington, Tx, I thought sure, I think people will like the coverage of a new sport here at Rx. Well, that turned into "why don't you compete"? I haven't thrown since 2004 and really, haven't trained for it since 2000. Well, here is my collage of throws where I finished in the top half of the field of 11 with a couple podium finishes. Thanks to the staff at the Texas Scottish Festival and Highland Games for giving us unlimited access and for putting on a wonderful games.
And a big thanks to Seamus at Sport Kilt for their fine handmade kilts nearly every competitor and I were wearing this weekend.
There has been a large upsurge in men over 35 returning to a sport they enjoyed in their youth or found success in at an age before marriage, kids, mortgages and divorce attorneys. Kevin Miller won the Masters over 40 Highland Games in Arlington, Tx., putting a whooping on the class of older yet still verile "old guys" this past weekend. No injuries nor issues happened over the weekend to these ageless warriors... but there were many many pints of Belhaven Scottish Ale struck down in the prime of their lives...
