Our minds are mysterious and make us unique from one another.  You hear and read so much about diet and exercise, but we really should focus more on training our minds as that is were change begins and ends.  Our mind controls all aspects of our lives.  Our mind controls how we feel, our attitude, our responhandstand with quoteses to different situations, how hard we exercise, how much we eat, what we crave,, even how long it takes us to recover.   In the last year I have become aware of just how our mind is what truly guides us through life.  We focus so much on the physical aspect but it’s really our mind that leads the way.  Things are only as difficult or easy as we mentally make them.  I’ve found the more I focus on my mindset more specifically a positive mindset the happier I am and the more I improve as person …mind, body and spirit.

There are still times I have thoughts or feelings I cannot explain and may not like.  Do I go with those thoughts and feelings or do I let them go and try to focus my mind elsewhere.  Though our minds may wonder we can refocus.  How that is done is based on the individual.  I try  to minimize the time spent on distracting thoughts and try not to dwell on the negative ones.  I focus on finding a positive even in difficult situations because it’s there if look for it.  When I’m having trouble refocusing on my own, I reach out to good friends or one of my favorite books, “In Pursuit of Excellence” by Terry Orlick.  I highly recommend this book to anyone looking to improve their mindset whether it be in sports or life in general.  I’ve read this book twice in the last year while preparing for the Olympia and while dealing with my calf injury.  It has truly helped me stay focused.  I have recently began reading it again.

When I am faced with a difficult situation, I think no matter how bad I think this is there is somebody else going through something much worse and persevering.  With that I want to send my thoughts and prayers out to my good friend Leanne who is going through an unexpected and life changing situation.  She is a strong lady and will discover the new direction heDSC 8103r life is heading may be even more meaningful than the path she was on before.  “Challenges are what make life interesting; overcoming them is what makes life meaningful.” - Joshua J.
