Questiod-vitaminn #25: What is the primarily functions of vitamin D ?

The functions of vitamin D are important for many processes in order for our system to work properly. Vitamin D helps with cell growth, immune system function and in the operations of the nervous system. Vitamin D also helps to regulate calcium levels in the blood and therefore has an important role in both bone development and density.

Our bodies actually make vitamin D when the skin is directly exposed to the sun. That is why it is often called the "sunshine" vitamin. Most people meet at least some of their vitamin D needs this way.
During the darker months of the year it can be difficult to get enough vitamin D. It's extra important to supply it through diet or by taking a supplement to maintain good general health.
Not many foods naturally contain vitamin D. As a result, many foods are fortified with vitamin D. Fortified means that vitamins have been added to the food. That’s why a supplement can be a good idea.

How to use the supplement:
The Recommended Dietary Allowance (RDA):
Older children and adults
9 - 70 years: 600 IU (15 mcg/day)

Side effesunshinects:
Too much vitamin D can make the intestines absorb too much calcium. This may cause high levels of calcium in the blood. High blood calcium can lead to:
Calcium deposits in soft tissues such as the heart and lungs
Confusion and disorientation
Damage to the kidneys
Kidney stones

Question #24: Dmasaanakon-treningao you know what glutamine is mainly used for?

Answer: Glutamine is one of 20 amino acids that together make up protein. The compound is non-essential, meaning the body produces a small amount of it by itself. Most glutamine is stored in muscles followed by the lungs, where much of the glutamine is made. Glutamine is the most common amino acid in our muscles and consumed faster during intensive training.

The purpose of pure glutamine supplementation is to build muscle, boost muscle pump and recover faster after your workout.

The body can make enough glutamine for its regular needs, but extreme stress (the kind you would experience after very heavy exercise or an injury) means your body may need more glutamine than it can make. That’s why extra intake from the compound might help you to acghieve better results during your workouts and while you are recovering.

From anecdotal reports some users says that the supplement reduces their sugar cravings.

How to use it: For adults ages 18 and older: Doses of 500mg, 1 - 3 times daily, are generally considered safe. Doses as high as 5,000 - 15,000 mg daily (in divided doses), or sometimes higher, may be prescribed by a health care provider for certain conditions.

Question #23: Do you know what ZMA is primarily used for and what it contains?

Answer:
ZMA stands for Zinc, Magnesium, and aspartate. ZMA is an easy way to supplement these two minerals and vitamin B6. ZMA is a popular supplement among bodybuilders, professional athletes and strength athletes.
The supplement also contains substances that are important for neuromuscular body functions. Many studies show a clear link between magnesium deficiency and people who exercise heavily or otherwise expose their body to stress. These individuals can benefit from eating more magnesium-rich diest or the use of a dietary supplement.
It is sometimes told through marketing that ZMA does increase “testosterone” levels, but there is no actual evidence to suggest that this occurs in healthy people. Though men with low levels of zinc can supplement their testosterone levels, there is no evidence to suggest this occurs in men with no deficiency though.
In spite of ZMA’s inadequacy of being a testosterone booster it can be a useful supplement for people that lack zinc and magnesium.
How to take it: ZMA should be used before going to bed.

Question #22: Do you know the difference between whey and casein protein?

wheycasienproteinWhen it comes to these two common protein supplements, casein is referred to the slower of two.  By slower it means that the uptake takes longer time opposed to the faster working whey protein which is excellent to use after a workout. Casein suits well as a supplement before you go to bed or when you know that you won’t be able to eat any meals for a longer period of time.

Calcium, the most common type, most often used as a supplement prior night's sleep to get a continuous supply of amino acids over several hours. Casein texture is relatively viscous, which is valuable in the diet as it more filling.

Micellar casein is the most natural and least processed form of casein, with the same proportions as milk. Then the body must break it down into more steps, taken micellar casein up even slower.

Triple phased casein contains three different kinds of proteins with different rapid uptake. The casein is then responsible for the slow protein, while whey is the rapid protein and egg protein funds quickly. This combination gives you the best of both worlds and you get both quick supply of protein but also for many hours.

 Discuss This Trivia

Question #21: Do you know what whey protein consists of and how it’s made?

Answer: Whey protein is one of the two proteins found in milk, with the other being (casein). During the process of making whey protein another substance called (rennin) is often added into the milk to make the whey and casein protein separate. Whey itself consists of water, water-soluble proteins, milk sugar (lactose) and also some minerals and vitamins.

Whey protein is considered to be a complete protein because it holds all the 9 essential amino acids - it is also low in lactose content.

There are also different types of whey. Prime examples are : whey protein concentrate (WPC), whey protein isolate (WPI), and whey protein hydrolysate (WPH).

* Whey protein concentrate - WPC contains low levels of fat and low levels of carbohydrates (lactose).

The percentage of protein in WPC depends on how concentrated it is. Lower end concentrates tend to have 30% protein and higher end up to 90%.

*Whey protein isolate - WPIs are further processed to remove all the fat and lactose. WPI is usually at least 90% protein.

*Whey protein hydrolysate - WPH is considered to be the "predigested" form of whey protein as it has already undergone partial hydrolysis - a process necessary for the body to absorb protein.

WPH doesn't require as much digestion as the other two forms of whey protein. In addition, it is commonly used in medical protein supplements and infant formulas because of it's improved digestibility and reduced allergen potential (medical news today)

How to take it: If your aim is to gain muscle mass whey protein is a perfect solution to combine with your ordinary meals. Real food first though and whey as a compliment to your diet. As a beginner you can use the supplement two to three times each day. It’s also excellent to use as a fast protein source post work out - combined with oat meal for example. Furthermore, I recommend that you use 30 to 40 grams per protein shake.

Gluten causes damage to the lining of the intestine. The most common symptoms of celiac disease are unexplained fatigue, hard to digest food and low blood count in adults.

Question #19: Do you know what  “HMB” is short for and what it’s primarily used for ?

Answer: HMB or Beta-Hydroxy-Beta-Metylbutyrat is an active “metabolite” of leucine. This supplement which often is marketed due to its anti-catabolic effects and thereby it is used primary to reduce the rate of muscle breakdown after a workout.

However, when it comes to anti catabolic effects it fails to be more effective than its parent “amino acid” leucine to stimulate the muscle protein synthesis – which is the primary branched chained amino acid (BCAA).

Question 14#: What does BCAA stand for, and can you name all three of the compounds?

The correct answer is: Branched Chain Amino Acids

BCAA  is composed by three specific amino acids, which are:

Leucine

Isoleucine

Valine

These three amino acids are essential: this means that they are necessary for survival and that the body can’t produce them by itself, thereby the intake must come from your natural diet or supplements. BCAA is equally important when it comes to recovery from workouts. In these “catabolic phases” the amino acids helps the muscles to recover and promote better growth.

Moreover: recent studies have shown that (leucine) can increase muscle retention and maximize fat loss much more effectively than non-supplemented groups which equals: Keeping more muscle mass while dieting and at the same time decrease the fat percentage of your body.
