Last Man Standing Update: The Men!

Precision Peptides Bros vs Pros 9, Last Man Standing is without a doubt going to be the Biggest and Baddest event RxMuscle has assembled yet. More IFBB Pro’s than Phoenix, more competitors than Dallas, more lovely women competing than Phoenix, and more industry names than any Bros vs Pros event before!

I am not sure if the legendary boxer and humanitarian Muhammed Ali ever deadlifted as part of his training regime during his championship years, but he certainly knew how champions were made:

Champions aren't made in gyms. Champions are made from something they have deep inside them: A desire, a dream, a vision. They have to have late minute stamina, they have to be a little faster, they have to have the skill and the will. But the will must be stronger than the skill.

Next weekend, on Saturday December 3rd in Montgomery, Illinois a clash of former champions will be the centerpiece of what will otherwise be the biggest Bros vs Pros event ever. This clash of young man vs seasoned veteran, youthful health vs returning from injury, a true Bro vs a proven Pro will set the stage for an incredible season ending event. Who will be crowned The Last Man Standing?

The Will of the 23yo former Precision Peptides Bros vs Pros 7 Champion Mark Lurch from Long Island, New York will match the Skill of the Worlds Strongest Man veteran and Species Nutrition Bros vs Pros 5 Champion from Waterbury, Connecticut in Derek Poundstone in what promises to be the most times our 405lb Deadlift has begrudged its resting place as they exploit it’s flaw to gravity.

In a recent conversation I had with Derek Poundstone, he had this to say about the December 3rd event: “I’ve heard this before. Ain’t my first rodeo. He better not be all talk. I’m training for it (Derek was a last minute entry at BvP 5) and gonna be pissed if he pulls less than 45!!! Internet Warriors…”

Of course after hearing that bold statement, I contacted Mark Lurch about his view of things: I feel pretty excited and kinda nervous at the same time, but that’s always a good thing. Knowing that Derek is at full strength, it’s going to be a battle, that’s for sure. I want to say anything over 35 (reps) will win. Don’t see it going past 40. I'm just glad to be a part of something like this. Never did I think when I started lifting that one day I could go up against one of the best strongmen in the world and someone I watched on TV and looked up to. I’m just ready to give it my all and when the dust clears, I hope I’m on top once again.”

However, there is a little unknown wrinkle that is developing for Last Man Standing and I guess now is as good a time as any to release my spoiler report. When I sent the video of this guy to Dave Palumbo, he emailed me and asked “who the hell is this guy? Get a hold of him ASAP!”

Every good story, book or movie, has a twist. Something or someone not initially considered by the person viewing or reading as course for the story. A few months ago, in the RxMuscle forum Muscle Central a video surfaced of a guy who was for all intensive reasons, questioned about its authenticity. The video showed an unknown athlete in nothing but a t-shirt and shorts deadlifting as if his life depended on it. On the bar was a verifiable 440lbs. As the lift began, it seemed as if it had no end. As the repetitions continued on past 15, 20, 30, 35… it ended lacklusterly at 37.

There is no sign of a struggle to bring 37 to it’s locked out position. Anyone who has ever deadlifted as part of their training knows what its like to bring those final few reps to full height. Heart pounding, lungs burning, legs quivering, lower back in muscular vapor lock… we have all been there. But what was surprising to find out from USP Labs sponsored athlete Chriss Duffin, is he had more in the tank. He simply didn’t need to lift any more to win that days competition.

Chris Duffin threw his hat in the ring a few weeks ago and asked us here at RxMuscle to keep his participation under wraps until the days before the event. He will be flying in all the way from Portland, Oregon the morning of the event and flying home immediately after his lift. That’s how much he is committed to proving he is the real deal in the Powerlifting community.

Remember Precision Peptides Bros vs Pros 9: Last Man Standing is this Saturday, December 3rd at the west Chicago mecca of power, Jakked Gym at 1:00pm. Entry to compete is free, entry to spectate is free… however we are asking everyone to bring a donation of pet food for the local Animal Shelter where Jakked Gym co-owner Tami Hicks is a tireless volunteer. Also, look for an announcement in Muscle Central for a first time event Friday, December 2nd at 7:00pm!
