Motivational Memoirs: Always Do Your Best

 

Thereattachment are several truisms in life that if followed will certainly lead us down a path of happiness, success, and fulfillment, at times they may seem difficult. In reality though, each time we stray from these is where things go wrong and really get difficult. One of the foundations on which all other things are built is the principle of “Always Doing OUR Best.”  This is something that may take a bit longer at times, but in the end it saves us so much time and allows us to ultimately be fulfilled by what we have done!

How does this apply to Fitness?  Just like many of my other writings before, all things are really connected and we cannot realize our ultimate potential without having total balance. Fitness is NO different, it doesn’t matter what gains you get, what muscle you develop, how much body fat you lose, what show you win (or lose), etc… If we don’t give our best to the process it all is really for nothing.  In our hearts we know that we could have done better, we could have given more! In the world of competing, this is ever more apparent as you see it all comes down to opinion and subjectivity.  We all are human, but what doesn’t change is what we gave and did in the process and nobody can add to that or take it away from us! Unfortunately, I see it all too often a competitor that accomplishes amazing things, yet does not place and is in shambles! This is just fine if you didn’t give your all, as you are realizing it and not really upset with the placing, but rather your effort! It’s time to learn from this.  Give your all and move on! I also see the competitors who work their butts off in every way shape or form, accomplish so many things along the way (in and outside of the gym), look amazing, yet do not place and are perfectly content with it! You see, this is someone who gets it! Our value is not determined by someone else’s opinion of us, but rather by what we gave! In the end we really get out what we put in, it always catches up!

The next time you are doing anything, stop and ask yourself, is this the best that you can do? This is a question that I ask myself many times a day and often times it simply means doing a bit more or taking a bit more time, but I can tell you that it has saved me countless hours as I can reflect upon my day knowing that I gave my all. I often times have people ask me for something or to do it “real quick” to which I respond I will not short change them or myself. I have learned to put some things on hold or wait until time can be devoted to them rather than giving them less than my best and this really has made an impact on my life and those I come in contact with.

Four simple words can honestly change our lives, the next time you think you are done, ask yourself “is this my best,” and if not, it’s time to finish the job before it finishes you!
