Derek: 524025 441939872487251 153047521376489 96023975 523218341 nJoining us today is Mychal Steven Beauchamp.  Congrats on a great showing!  What made you decide to compete in the Men’s Physique Division?
Mychal: Thanks! I have competed in bodybuilding in the past and Men’s Physique is up and coming so I thought I’d give it a shot and see how I liked it. I loved it!!! I like how your stage presence and personality plays a part in winning because that IS a part of the total package.

D: Can you tell us a little about the Competition you just competed in?
M: April 14, 2012 was the First National qualifier of the year in Colorado! This was the biggest show ever! NPC Axis Labs Northern Championships in Boulder Colorado. After traveling 250 miles with Team 970Muscle we arrived in Boulder checked in, got tanned up, and relaxed for the following day. I was so excited and so ready for the contest, finally I got to reveal the progress that I had made over the last seven months and the 14 weeks of contest preparation. It was such an amazing time being surrounded my your family and teammates screaming your name. I couldn’t help but glow on stage!

D: How did you feel after pre-judging?
M: After pre-judging I was so impressed with the competition that was there. These guys brought the heat. I had the most fun time out on stage, when you are under the lights and in front of hundreds of people it makes all the grueling workouts and diet worth it! I felt great after because I knew that I had made huge gains since my last show and that I was moving forward in my journey.

D: How did you feel about the final results of the show?
M: The results of the show were great.  I met my goal of placing top five in my open height class at a national qualifier. I would be lying if I said I was one hundred percent satisfied not obtaining first place. But I trained hard and I brought my best physique to date on stage and met my goal. I think the judges really had a hard job of judging because everyone looked so good!

D: What are your thoughts on the Men's Physique Division and what it may be able to do for your career?
M: I love this new division! I think that it will become extremely popular in the future. The division is still so new and the ideal physique to represent the sport is still being determined. It gives athletes a chance to bring their best package to the stage without having to use drugs to even be considered a contender. I would love to see the showing of your legs in the future because it’s a total package thing and for those that work really hard for our legs this would be huge! I’m always going to be living the fitness lifestyle and anything career wise that comes from it is just the icing on the cake! I have big dreams of being a huge contender in this sport in the future and that keeps me pushing new limits for new goals.

Age: 20

Hometown: Craig, Colorado 81625 A pretty small town in the northwestern part of the state. It has taught me a lot of lessons and I call it home.

Current city: 523914 3608654025653 fffsf1552771038 3078337 1881088042 nGrand Junction, Colorado 81501

Years training:
I have been training since the seventh grade but real serious for the last 2 years. I have always been a very active athlete playing soccer, football, and basketball.

Education:
I am currently a junior at Colorado Mesa University studying Kinesiology Exercise Science and a minor in personal training. I hope to be a Physical Therapist and a fitness coach someday.

Occupation:
Student, Physique athlete, and founder and leader of Footsteps of Christ which is a youth group for high school and college aged people.

Favorite type of training:
I personally love volume training, but pushing myself to the limit so that when I leave the gym I know that there was nothing more I could have done. Anything with INTENSITY!!

Favorite body part to train:
Oh my gosh it’s so hard to just pick one! I would have to say Chest followed extremely close by with legs! You can really tell a lot about a person by their legs; anyone can have a big chest but to have a solid set of wheels, that is another story.

Favorite exercise: Cable Crossovers

Rep range:
Depending on my specific goals at the time it changes but for the most part I like to be in the 8-12 rep range. Here I can lift heavy and still get a great peaking contraction.

Number of sets: 3-4

Typical workout duration:
45-60 minutes unless I’m hitting cardio after then it can be up to and hour and a half.

Training split:
I’m always changing my splits up periodically
At the moment I’m hitting:
Chest and Triceps
Quads, Hamstrings, Calves
Shoulders and Biceps
Back
Abs before all my workouts

Typical daily eating plan:
I eat 6-8 meals everyday
High protein in every meal 30-50’ish grams
Complex carbs based around breakfast, pre and post workout.
I always have a fast acting carb/protein shake after my workouts to start repairing as fast as possible.
I actually love to cook and try new ways of making new recipes. It’s funny because that’s the last thing you usually see from a college bachelor. Ha!

Favorite supplement:
Your Nutrition comes first and foremost if that is not dialed in then there is not a supplement that can help! For any intense athlete supplementation is key to that person’s growth. I have used a ton of supplements in the past and my number one supplement is a quality whey protein. Not only does it taste great but it’s most important. (I like using Dyamitize and or Optimum) I use a lot of MAN Sports products that keep me pushing my limits!! A multi vitamin is essential that your getting all the minerals and vitamins that you need. Creatine is huge in pushing past your limits. Fish oil is always a part of my day. I love pre-workout stimulants they help me get my mind right and pumped up for a lift after a hard day! My favorites are GameDay from MAN Sports or Neurocore from Muscletech.

What peaked your interest in training?
I think I came out of the womb wanting to have a stellar physique! I struggled with anxiety as a kid growing up and that made me afraid of a lot of things. My dad was a competitive bodybuilder when he was younger and I knew that as soon as I started getting stronger, bigger, and aesthetically pleasing I would be a stronger person. Sure enough I couldn’t stay out of the gym I was gaining so much confidence and nobody wanted to mess with me! The control that I now had on my mind and life was where I always wanted it to be. My dad was my first motivation to get going He showed me everything he knew and he believed in me, which is the biggest part!

Who influences/influenced your training?
My Dad, Kai Greene, Phil Heath, Antoine Vaillant, Ronnie Coleman, Steve Cook, Derek Trombetta, Alex Carneiro, Matt Christianer, Victor Martinez, Shawn Ray, Flex wheeler, Greg Plitt, I truly could go on and on. I look up to all these guys!

Sports:
Soccer for about seven years. Football, and my favorite basketball I remember before I put my dedication to lifting I would stay outside all night and shoot hoops and practice my ball handling skills blindfolded. I never went anywhere with out my basketball.

Special interests:
I absolutely love teaching the Holy Bible! It has done so much for myself and others.

Physique, fitness, bodybuilding competition history:
2011 NPC Armbrust Pro Gym Warrior Classic placed 3rd in my class.
2012 NPC Axis Labs Northern Championships I placed 5th in my class.

Awards and/or accomplishments:
Every time I eat a meal that’s an accomplishment. Every workout completed is another step closer to the goal. This is how I view life and when you look at it positively your able to see that there is hundreds of accomplishments in a day if you’re accountable to yourself.

Next planned competition:MychalBeauchamp-10
I’m not sure when the next time I’ll step on stage is. I want to work on getting bigger, harder, and leaner! But there is no doubt you will see this guy back on stage!

What keeps you on track towards reaching your goals?
There is a quote that says, “Everything you do…every decision you make either takes you a step closer, or a step further away from your goals. You either grow or regress; nothing stands still.” This has always been my motto. I say to myself all the time “2 Steps.” This drives my motivation through the roof just by saying it. Every time someone goes out and parties of misses a meal or workout has just taken a step back. Now If you eat every meal and hit all your workouts for the day then you have taken a step forward and you are now two steps ahead of the other guy that fast. These small steps become huge over time and that’s what I believe makes a champion. Taking forward steps every single day. No matter how small the steps at least they are moving forward. 2 Steps!!

Interesting fact or something you would like our readers to know about you:
I’m really a simplistic person the little things in life mean the most to me. I’m very humble and able to get along with anyone. I love helping people reach their own fitness goals.
