Meet MP Competitor Don Magruder

 

Today390341 292181210821622 100000892353151 877767 1338155136 n MP Competitor Don Magruder is joining us.  Congrats on a your recent showing!  What made you decide to compete in the Men’s Physique Division?
I have been working out for years and have a very strong passion for fitness.  As a personal trainer and athlete, I felt obligated show my clients I love what I do.

 


Can you tell us a little about the Competition you just competed in?  
I recently competed in Davenport, Iowa at the National Qualifier “Battle of the Champions.”  It was a great turn out and was the best atmosphere to be around. 

 


How did you feel after pre-judging?
After pre-judging I felt relieved to know that I came more prepared than I thought I would.  I was pretty confident about how things went and that I had the walk and quarter turns down.


How did you feel about the final results of the show?  
The final results of the show surprised me because I did not have but a week to prepare for the show and came in 4th which qualified me for nationals.  

What are your thoughts on the Men's Physique Division and what it may be able to do for your career?  As a personal trainer, I love that they have made a division that can allow athletes to stay healthy and fit without being the hulk and still be competitive.  I hope to obtain my pro card with in the next few years after learning what the judges really are looking for in this new Men’s Physique Division.

I really focus on eating as much meat as possible.  Most meat being Chicken breast.

What peaked your interest in training?  
I was big into baseball all of my life and decided it was time to bulk up to be able to compete at a higher level.


Who influences/influenced your training?  
When it comes to me training, I love to constantly develop more knowledge on fitness.  I had nobody to influence me in high school which is when I first began working out.  Now, I work out to be able to stay healthy, compete, and so my clients and family can look up to me for pursuing my passion like most do not get to do.

What keeps you on track towards reaching your goals?
I was overweight when I was younger and thought it would be impossible for me to ever look like any guys I see in fitness magazines.  Now that I am getting closer, it keeps me going to push myself to see how far I really can go.  My dad always told me “You only get today once” and that is what I go by every day.


Interesting fact or something you would like our readers to know about you:  I have my Black belt in Taekwondo and I also was a two time state champion in weapons in Missouri.
I also was also on a two time state champion team for baseball in Missouri.
