You're looking to see what kind of physique it takes to win the Men's Physique division....look no further.  Check out these shots of Keith Baker.  He showed up big time and took home the prize.  Congrats Keith!

2011 Vancouver USA - Sword 1

What are your thoughts on the Men's Physique Division?
It’s exciting to be part of the initial defining stages of a new division, especially one where the athletes have the look that I would like to maintain year round. The announcement of this division motivated me to train harder and eat better so I could compete. I look forward to seeing it evolve in the next couple of years. I also think the ideal Men’s Physique body is very marketable and will increase sponsorship and endorsement opportunities for competitors.

Age: 44

Hometown: Tacoma, Washington

Current city: Bellevue, Washington

Years training: I started lifting 25 years ago when I was in the Army.

Education: B.S. Accounting, Central Washington University

Occupation: CPA. Vice President & Corporate Controller of a software company.

Favorite type of training:
I love to lift weights and love to run outside on a sunny day.

Favorite body part to train:
Probably my arms as they were the first to respond when I first started to lift. They also are the first part to get noticed when in a t-shirt.

Favorite exercise:
I love heavy arm curls using the big barbell. Also, arm curl drop sets at the end of my work out.

2011 Vancouver USA - Standing
Rep range:
Depends on whether I’m building strength or endurance/cuts.

Strength – 5-6 max.

Endurance/cuts - 15-20.

Number of sets:
At least 10-12 sets of every muscle group.

Typical workout duration:
60-90 minutes depending on how much time I have and/or what I’m trying to accomplish.

Training split:
I usually take a day or two off per week depending on my schedule and how I feel, but have been working out every day in preparation for these initial competitions. I typically train each muscle group no more than twice per week.

Typical daily eating plan:
I’ve been eating 8 self-prepared meals for the last month to increase lean muscle mass. Before I hired my nutritionist, I was eating 3 meals plus 3 protein shakes per day. I’ve been eating lots of chicken breasts, lean ground turkey and sirloin, plus potatoes and green vegetables.

Favorite supplement:
Pre-work out drinks. I only started taking pre-work drinks in January 2010 and noticed an immediate difference in my 6am work outs.

What peaked your interest in training? I grew up very lean (skinny really) and cut, but always wanted to be bigger like most of my friends. A big guy in my Army unit, Greg Hodge, invited me to the gym in 1986 and I’ve been lifting consistently since then!

Sports:

I was an NAIA National Champion high hurdler & 5-time All-American in college. In high school, I was all-state in track and played a little football and basketball.

Physique, fitness, bodybuilding competition history: 2011 NPC Vancouver USA Natural Bodybuilding Championships – Men’s Physique Overall Champion (my first show).

Awards and/or accomplishments:
First Men’s Physique Overall Champion in the state of Washington.

Next planned competition:

2011 NPC Emerald Cup, April 16, 2011

What keeps you on track towards reaching your goals?
Last year when I was 25-30 lbs heavier and carrying layers of fat, my motivation was a pic of me when I was 19 years old! Now, the thought of competing in a Physique competition where I’m old enough to be a father to some of the guys is very motivating
J.

Interesting fact or something you would like our readers to know about you:
I was a U.S. Army Paratrooper from 1984 - 1988

As a married man and father to 4 young kids, I have been able to maintain a balanced lifestyle that includes working out, working and being very involved with my family. Regular exercise has not only made me healthier, but helps me deal better with the stresses of life.

Shout Outs:
I’d like to thank God for blessing me in more ways than I can count!

I’d like to thank my nutritionist, Pete Grubbs of Construction Zone Fitness, for providing me with a great meal plan that has helped me stop losing weight & pack on lean muscle mass. http://www.constructionzn.com/

I’d like to thank IFBB Pro Tanji Johnson for teaching me about stage presence for competitions. http://tanjijohnson.com/OfficialSite/

Finally, I’d like to thank my wife, Rebekah, for being a good example of how you can eat healthy and stay fit even with all of the demands of a big family. She competed in figure for the first time last year and won her first competition. http://amamabringingsexyback.blogspot.com/
